Swear words

Postby Dinamo » 31 Oct 2019, 23:29

What are the site rules concerning swear words in messages between players?
I know I am probably in the minority concerning this but I
actually find it offensive.

I believe that the rule is that swearing is allowed, so long as it's not public.

However, I wonder if calling someone a discriminatory term (such as 'stupid n***er') is allowed....?

It wasn't a derogatory comment. It was just a message containing curse words.
To be honest I think that such language isn't needed in Diplomacy.

Yeah we aren’t going to interfere if people curse ... even in public press if someone says shit or something.

While I think this discussion itself is fine, please remember that the forums are public facing, so please don’t print grossly offensive and derogatory terms in full, even if you’re using them as examples. I have since edited Oh Cheese’s comment accordingly.

As to the rules on this, remember that we do have policies regarding both public and private press:

viewtopic.php?f=659&t=48796#p817371
See rules 6-7 specifically.

If you encounter something you think breaks these rules, create a forum PM to the “Mods” group to request help.

Remember that the same rules apply for both Public and private messaging, but the degree to which they are enforced is intentionally laxer for private messages.

Its not cool to be full of hate mr cheese - even with the editing your question is completely offensive and frankly incredibly dumb, it leads me to believe its deliberate.

Automatic red card.

"It's long been associated with anger and coarseness but profanity can have another, more positive connotation. Psychologists have learned that people who frequently curse are being more honest. Writing in the journal Social Psychological and Personality Science a team of researchers from the Netherlands, the UK, the USA and Hong Kong report that people who use profanity are less likely to be associated with lying and deception...."
