OOC can someone please tell me what common techs are, what I can e assumed to have, what I don't have, but could get in the next few years, and what geeral research paths are.

You'll find a list of public-domain techs at the start of this thread bumped to the top of the main page for you, containing all the techs you'd already have from the start.

You can also use them as a starting point for other tech projects you want to pursue yourself, tailoring your own improvements along the way.

EG - MAC/Medical Administration Cloth was already a public-domain when I arrived, but I picked it up and developed my own tech off it - the Comfort Blanket - as I saw further potential in it (developing the Arch-Angel and Guardian-Angel comfort blankets - one for civilian use, the other for field medics and other operational specialists - both of which I've now made public-domain as well).

It's updated every now and then, when someone makes one of their techs available as public-domain, but not sure when that last was, so maybe check with someone else.

You're also allowed a distinctive tech of your own (could be something military, or medical, or something else a little different), but I'm not sure about the details, so again, best to get someone else to fill in those blanks.

Also, as long as a tech project is intended for the benefit of the people/general population and not for the military, then the ATD (Applied Technologies Division) of the PCG is happy to help as an R&D partner.
The enemies of my enemies are not necessarily my friend, but they may still be useful.

I do believe the last major bump was when matt and I dumped SP-level miltech into the public domain. Not the SPest of SPs - eg, Mattopian lasers and Venusian missiles, so I still have an edge on lasers and he has a missile advantage - but still pretty damn good.

The distinctive starting tech is basically whatever you want, adjusted for balance. Just pick something and post it and it's yours - assuming the community thinks its fine. So nothing gamebreaking like teleportation or OP but there's a lotta leeway.

Fortress Venus: we're going to continue the fortifiaction of the planet Venus by boosting the anti-orbital missile batteries, and linking them into a hard network deep underground. We're also (HFPE) boosting our cyber fortifications by connecting and integrating it to a series of wired-together servers underneath the surface of the planet, centered around the Ark City and Warehouses of former New Hope/Argentina respectively. 15 yrs.

OOC: You know that the Latin Empire would just imprison, arrest, or possibly execute people who would listen to your stations, right? I mean, censorship isn't just done by preventing the spread of propaganda. There are many ways of enforcing things like that, and the Latin Empire is perfectly happy to be as extreme as necessary to discourage or prohibit such stations. For example, in WW2, it was illegal in Germany to listen to English radio. People did it, sure, but if they were caught, it wasn't pretty for them. The Latin Empire is building a security system founded in fear. Basically, "The fear of overwhelming force and brutality, rather than explicit use of force itself, should be used in the governing of the populace." In other words, I'm basing my nation on the Tarkin Doctrine (if you don't know what that is, look it up). That also means that snitching on neighbors is highly rewarded by great favor, much like in historical dictatorships.

You’ll look really bad though, this means you can’t do censorship on the cheap.

In the eyes of the Entinates the Latin Empire wouldn't look as bad as the country developing media messages specifically designed to bypass the cyber defenses of other nations. I also would like a judge to decide how effective this tech would be if you're gonna try and use it on me.

Completed Consortium Tech:
Second Skin is complete. Martians can change into customizable forms equipped with various techno-organic weaponry such as claws or tentacles. Transforming is meant to have a spiritual meaning and is limited to use once a day for a few hours. Several times more powerful than conventional humans, Second Skin is to be offered to all Consortium citizens as a personal defense.

Mercenary Mix-Up and Scalar Beam are also complete. Mercenary Mix-Up has resulted in a harmonization of conventional ICNS designs and the Biotic Sheath. It is more comfortable for the millions of offworld mercenaries that protect the country and should also help with training. The Scalar Beam was designed to be one of the most powerful lasers in Sol.

New Consortium Tech:
Walled Cities: Most major cities in the Entinates are built in and around crater lakes with natural walls. By applying nanotech and organic computing to these earthern barriers, Consortium scientists will increase their defensive capabilities through the integration of new missile defense systems and laser platforms. They can be "sheathed" away and activated as needed. 10 years

"Brightcry" Starfighter: The first of a new generation of Consortium spacecraft. The Janisist faith is going to expand into the stars. Details in a future post. 15 years

Do you really think the Latin Empire cares at this point about "looking bad"? They expect they will look bad, but the Immortal Emperor doesn't care even a little. All he cares about is the protection and security of his Empire.

To be honest, he's probably just start imprisoning a ton of Venusians on suspicion of being spies. It certainly wouldn't help their situation. They are already beginning to be socially shunned by many, since the government has such a policy of fear towards them. No explicit oppression yet, but they are treated with suspicion already.
