Magic: Austro-German Alchemists are most notably capable of storing energy in small stones. These stones are often used to power unusually rapid-fire Gatling guns, small mechanized bicycles, standard steam pumps, locomotives, and things of that sort. Basically, it's easy for Alchemists to mechanize things that wouldn't normally be very easy to mechanize. For things that are already mechanized, their efficiency is enhanced by the use of the energized stones. This is achieved through highly efficient clockwork designs and the Lodestones (as the energized stones are called).
Technology:
Civilian
Improved Steam Drill
Automobiles - Civilian and military early Automobiles. The military version will be slightly more covered/armored (much like a carriage), but will primarily be used for quick transport of high-ranking officials and carrying wounded from the battlefield (the medical version is known as a Krankenwagen).
Writing Automatons

Military
Improved Gatling Gun
Windbüchse (Air Gun)
Zeppelins - Armed with 5 mounted Gatling Guns and positions for 10 Windbüchse and other snipers to sit. They will also be capable of dropping a decent payload of bombs. They are large, armored flying fortresses. They are not super accurate, as these are VERY early models.
Schwimmende Festungen (Floating Fortresses) - These are VERY heavy duty Ironclads armed with 4 cannons on each side, 2 Gatling Gun emplacements on top, and a mortar. Meant to be used in relatively small numbers, but very effective.
Kriegswagen - A strange design for an armored vehicle, it is a wood and metal armored wagon that is completely enclosed. In essence, it is a small mobile fortress. It is horse-drawn (and needs 4 horses to pull at any real speed), but rather resilient. The wagon is armed with a Gatling Gun and can carry up to ten infantry (who can fire through small slits in the walls of the wagon). It is meant as a way of quickly fortifying a position and providing rapid and effective cover for infantry forces.
Cipher Automatons - A simple clockwork machine capable only of writing simple encoded messages. The big draw, however, is that only Automatons by the same maker can write in the same cipher. Additionally, one must have the Automaton, a physical key to activate it, and the correct sequence in which to turn the key (much like a combination padlock, but key-activated). Each machine is large, approximately human-sized. This will make it very easy to send secret and secure communiques as necessary.

Military: 400,000 strong in total
Infantry Divisions
150,000 Elite Infantrymen
10,000 Kriegswagens

Light Infantry Divisions
30,000 Windbüchse Jaegers (Airgunners/snipers)
30,000 Feuerbüchse Jaegers (Light Infantry)

Heavy Divisions
30,000 Gatling Gun Squads (~2 men per squad)
10,000 Heavy Mortar Divisions (Artillery) (~3 men per squad)

Cavalry
10,000 Hungarian Hussars
20,000 Uhlan Lancers

Air Divisions
500 Zeppelins

Navy
25 Schwimmende Festungen

Brief History/description
Following the Napoleonic Wars, Austria suffered with the rest of Europe (Switzerland, incidentally, never seceded, but remains a rebellious/semi-independent territory to this day), and the Holy Roman Empire was officially dissolved. Weakened and demoralized, the nation was surprisingly quick to rebuild. Focusing on industrialization and technological advancement, the Austrians turned themselves into a uniquely specialized world power. Their military was powerful, but largely due to intricate machinery and specialized troops (as opposed to main-line soldiers). Alchemists tended to focus more on using their powers to fuel and construct new mechanized contraptions and clockwork wonders.

During this period, brilliant Austrian Chancellor Klemens von Metternich advised Kaiser Franz Josef to take the side of their south German allies in the last great war, which turned out to be the first of the major industrial wars. The newly reorganized Austrian military proved itself excellent in a supporting role, and, as a result, talks were opened to unify Austria, Bohemia, Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, and Switzerland in a new confederation. Once again calling themselves the Holy Roman Empire, the new Alpine Confederation became one of the newer world powers, unifying a large portion of Germany and causing many of the nations of the world to turn their heads.

Now, the newly re-christened Holy Roman Imperial Alpine Confederation looks to reunify the disparate German nation-states and spread the Empire, bringing them under the banner of the Holy Roman Empire and the able rule of Kaiser Franz Josef Habsburg von Wien.

Great text, well done!

Just a little hint: It is "DIE Alpenkonföderation" in German (female). And at the end you wrote Hapsburg, which should be "Habsburg" (with b).

Sorry for nitpicking.. Jack

Dang it, you're right!

I originally thought it was Die Konföderation, but my horrible internet translator told me otherwise. I foolishly went against my instincts and believed it.

Also, good catch on the Habsburg. I'll change that now...

Southern Italian rebels in Salerno have sent a call to the Alpenkonföderation and the Holy See to support them in their conflict.
