"total" is players total detour98f points. "normed" is the total points after normalizing by country. See here for explanation of scoring.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Game 12 has reached the time limit so the standings are final. Placements are presented above.

The big winner is ...........cspieker 8-) with two solos (France, Russia), with Peanutplacing a close second, also with two solos (France, Germany), and Lucifers_Hammer making the podium with one solo as Turkey.

Since the scores are modulated by power it makes sense to present the best of power awards. The top three finishers for each powers were:
Austria: Presser84, Lucifer's Hammer, cspieker
England: cspieker, Palin, EasyRider
France: cspieker (tied), Peanut (tied), Maucat
Gemany: Peanut, Presser84, 6 players basically tied for third by surviving through 1905
Italy: Peanut, Seve, Maucat
Russia: cspieker, Lucifers_Hammer, EasyRider
Turkey: Lucifers_Hammer, Seve, Zebb

As far as powers go, France apparently overpowered all others with Russia and Turkey next. Germany placed fairly well solely due to Peanut's impressive solo, and Austria was total death (many players not surviving until 1906).

Thanks everybody for the great tournament, and serious play! It was great fun. We'll have to do it again. I'd be happy to set it up if there is interest.

I think having the highest final SC total as Austria in gunboat should be worth an extra 100 tournament points don't you?

Yes probably. You win :D Plus you had a respectable second in Germany, where no one else did anything except for Peanut with his solo. Propose a new scoring system for the next time and we'll consider it.

I was thinking of a few things to fiddle with in the scoring, like solos being worth "only" 100 points. And maybe make it so the point that you get for surviving until 1906 can't be taken away by a solo.

These were my first gunboat games ever and as such I am rather satisfied by my performance. I'm disappointed by my result as France, to tell the truth...

I would like to take part in the next tournament, cspieker!

PS. I agree with your proposal regarding scoring. However, I would put it this way: 100 for a solo and the rest divided between those who survived until 1906.

I'm not sure what you would mean by 'the rest' of the points. Would that mean just giving them the normal amount they would have gotten had they not been wiped by a solo? Assuming that's the case, I would be hesitant to make that change, because then there wouldn't be quite the urgency of stopping the solo, at least by the bigger lesser powers, as they'd still be jockeying for points. The threat of everybody getting zero (or close to it) in the face of the solo makes it much more worthwhile to unite versus the leader. If we made your change, I think we'd have a radically different game.

I was thinking of giving the 1906 survivors token points as it would differentiate powers in the chart at the end, to tell you exactly what a 0 means (person did not survive past 1905). Right now a 0 means either you didn't survive past 1905 OR got the bad end of a solo. It didn't end up happening in this tournament, but suppose that some country ended up with nobody surviving until the end (so the only points for Austria, say, were for 1906 survivors) Then in that case, with my power-normed scoring, all Austria's that survived past 1905 would get big points, unless you happened to be an Austria that made it to 1906 but ended up a loser to a solo. That didn't seem like a great outcome of two people surviving to 1906 but ending up with radically different points. So that's why I might make the 1906 point to be permanent.

What I meant was sharing the 10 points from the 110 to those who had survived until 1906.

First of all a BIG thank you to cspieker for hosting the tournament!

I would be well up for playing another one and I think the 110 points for a solo wouldn’t be such an issue the 2nd time around as people (hopefully) have realized the gain one player will make in the table from a solo thus fight harder to stop one. Should someone still solo they’d be worth the 110 points!

It would be an idea to leave the countries out on the leader board, in my case it told me that Palin / England was the one to go for (not that it help me much :? ) in the last game (12).

Cheers / Nick

Using the playdip ranking system the tourney would have ended like this:

Player England France Italy Germany Austria Turkey Russia Total

Peanut 1 12 3 12 0 0 0 28
Lucifer 0 0 0 0 3 12 3 18
EasyRider 3 1 4 0 0 0 3 11
presser84 0 0 0 3 1 3 3 10
Zebb 0 1 3 0 0 4 0 8
Seve 0 0 4 0 0 3 0 7
Mal 0 3 0 0 0 0 4 7
Maucat 0 4 1 0 0 0 1 6
Palin 1 3 0 0 0 0 1 5
