ODC Update - New TDs & Round 2

Hey all!

Myself and HardAcre are taking over the 2022 ODC as co-GMs. As such, I've officially withdrawn as a player and my R1 score will not count. If you have any questions/issues, please be sure to CC both of us into the PM.

Aside from the scheduling, the rules will remain the same. Notably, surrenders are still a reason for disqualification from the tournament, so if you surrendered out in R1 you will not be contacted for future rounds unless you had good reason for doing so. If you surrendered and you believe there were exceptional circumstances, please send me a DM about it asap.

One game in Round 1 failed to begin the first time around - the players who should have been involved have been contacted and we're recruiting some players to fill in for those who haven't replied. This game will be set up this Sunday, 12th June and will hopefully be underway shortly afterwards.

PMs about Round 2 confirmation will go out the week following that, with games set up either on Saturday, 18th June or Saturday, 25th June depending on how quickly we receive responses.

Finally, it's been raised that not everyone checks the PlayDip forum regularly, especially since the tournament went through a period of no updates. If you wish to be contacted through some other method (another Dip site, Discord, email, carrier pigeon or something else), please PM me about it.

Oh, he actually gave me edit rights to that site back when he set it up, so I could fill out details for the previous ODCs. So I could keep it up to date! But first port of call for info will always be this forum.

Does anyone feel strongly about tournament directors not being able to take part? It seems a shame for the captain to have to withdraw as punishment for his good deed. I'm aware that as director he has access to information the rest of us don't, but I'm quite happy to accept he will make no effort to exploit this, and the risk he may inadvertently pick up an advantage seems a far lesser evil than him being forced to withdraw.

And, of course, if he happens to win we can dismiss it as being because of an unfair advantage and maintain the delusion that it should have been us

I respect the Captain's decision (I believe HardAcre's also not playing) - not because of any actual apprehension I would have were he to play, but as a clear indication of his commitment to seeing this through as impartially and with as much integrity as possible, for the good of the tournament. Yes, I would also --very, very much-- like him (plus, HardAcre) to play, and like to play against him. But playing might force him to make choices he'd rather not make, not the least of which might be how to allocate his spare time. So - the strong feeling I have is one of gratitude for CaptainMeme and HardAcrefor rescuing the tournament. I think they are doing that very well indeed, including CaptainMeme's decision to recuse himself from playing.
