It's a pretty serious indictment of the hobby when a major, recurring tournament implodes like this. Not that I can recall it ever happening before. If we are going to simply abandon it due to lack of interest and organization, it would be preferable to know sooner rather than later.

I think this is a ridiculous comment. There are 2 complete games and 5 ongoing. Plenty of players for r2, and no reason to start r2 that urgently. If we need another TD we can get one quickly enough.

Yeah personally I’m not complaining about the delay as I need a break from diplomacy, and depending on when r2 starts I may even pull out altogether from ODC. But as Strategus noted, there are enough people interested, and I’m sure the tournament can proceed even if with slightly fewer boards. But if HardAcre has also dropped out, it’d be good to get another replacement for TD. I seem to recall there was another volunteer.

Hi all,

I've come onboard with HardAcre as a co-TD and we're working on getting things sorted now. First goal is to get the R1 game that didn't start set up (this should be done by this Sunday) and then we'll begin confirmation for R2. R2 will begin either on Sunday 19th or Sunday 26th depending on how quickly confirmation happens.

I'm also dropping out of the tournament as a player, given otherwise there would be a huge conflict of interest here.

Appreciate you stepping up, Markus, and making the ultimate sacrifice. And apologies to fellow hobbyists if my earlier comments came across as "ridiculous." Simply that the R2 start time was originally mid-May, was then pushed back to May 21/22, and then the last official announcement was May 26.
