Replacemenet tournament director

Postby super_dipsy » 19 May 2022, 10:09

Hi all, I'm afraid Malarky has gone worryingly dark. I'm sure everyone will join me in hoping he is simply off doing RL things and not ill or worse.

I'm going to try to find someone else to be the tournament director, at least while Malarky is unavailable. Does anyone have experience running a tournament and can volunteer? I do have one possible replacement already, but yell if someone else wants to do the job. Probably means not someone in the tourney though.

I'm currently in an R1 game, but as soon as that is over I'd be happy to drop out and take over the TD spot. I ran the last ODC over at webDip along with a few other tournaments, so I'm quite familiar with it - although I might need to ask some questions about the ins and outs of PlayDip since I'm not used to running things here.

Thankyou Captainmeme. I have a volunteer who has agreed to take the reins now (HardAcre) but he has less experience than you so it might be good to have you to help too.

Hello Everyone,

I am new temporary Tournament Director holding the fort until Malarkey returns. It looks like all the hard work has been done in setup and hopefully I can just keep the wheels turning.

I'll check messages daily and post regularly with the simple aim of keeping the game fun and delivering the tournament rounds. Bear with me while I catch up on the tournament structure and please be patient with any rule requests in the first week.

With thanks to those offers of help, I'll be in touch soon and if anyone else would like to pitch in please message me.

Good luck to all competing!

Hello HardAcre,

Thanks for taking over! I’m sure you are doing a lot to get yourself up to speed. I tried to send you a PM but I’m not sure it went through (I don’t use this site much). If you didn’t receive it, would you please PM me?

Thanks,

knilgau

Firstly, really hope Mal is ok - and comes back to us soon.

Secondly, massive thanks to all offering to step in. You heroes.

Thirdly, small Pootle-Plea. I'm off to DixieCon on Tuesday, meaning I'll be Dixie-Gone from 24th May to 1st June. Would be good if r2 started when I got back!! Otherwise my brain may explode.

Malakry disappeared? Hm..

Without knowing nor insinuating anything, but I remember others, like Carebear, Nopun and more..

There seems to be a pattern. Interesting.

Do we know what happened to Carebear? I was away when he left and for some time after and always had a lot of respect for him

No, we do not know anything, at least I don't.

That's a part of the pattern: they disappear suddenly, without any notice, after they have showed up, engaged themself more and more for Playdiplomacy, answering almost every second posting on the forum, organizing tournaments, becoming moderators etc. All that in a relatively short timespan, and then.. puff.. gone without any trace. That's very interesting, from a behavioral viewpoint. I'm very interested in such psychology, as part of my anthropological studies.

Btw Carebear was the only of these whom I got to know personally. At the WDC Oxford in 2017. He was a very lovely, friendly guy, maybe a bit obese, but very easy to get along with. One whom you want to have as a friend. Not sure anymore what he said what his profession was, something with computers I think. We went even on a boat excursion on the Oxford river/canal, together, it was sooo relaxed.

Now I have still my last PM to him in the outbox, waiting to be read by him. I won't delete, so I can remember him from time to time.

Regards.. Jack
