-------- Original Post --------
Hello everyone!

It's been a while since I've run a forum diplomacy game so please forgive anything I miss in this initial post and ask questions if there's any confusion.

I would like to run the South American Supremacy variant. (NOTE: This differs from the South America Diplomacy variant previously played on the forum.)
Variant: http://variantbank.org/results/rules/s/sasupremacy.htm
Discord: https://discord.gg/eZmQrR4 (Orders can be sent via discord or this Forum's PM system. Public press will be handled on discord though so you might not want to miss out.)
Game Deadlines: 3/2/2 - 3 days for Spring and Fall orders (5 days for initial phase), 2 days for retreats, 2 days for builds.
Country Assignment: Since this is the first play-through on the site, this will be random.

Rules copied from variant link:
1. The Starting Year is 1835, though the map represents no exact period in time. Rather, the map and the variant as a whole are a composite of 19th century South America.

2. Starting Positions:
Chile: F Val, A San
Argentina: F BAs, A Cor, A Sal
Brasil: F SaP, A Rio, F Slv, A Man
Bolivia: F Ant, A LaP
Colombia: F Cal, F Car, A Bog
Paraguay: A Asu, A Con
Peru: F Lim, A Tru
Venezuela: A Mar, F Ccs.

3. The Andes Mountains: Indicated by a darkened border, separating the western ridge of the continent from the interior. Units may not cross the Andes Mountains (like Switzerland) except at "passes," marked on the map by two small parallel lines with a normal (light) border between them. The Andes Mountains form the border between Cali and Popayan, and stretch all the way south to separate Valparaiso from Cordoba.

4. Rivers: Very simple. The Amazon and Parana rivers are navigable by fleets. They are NOT separate bodies of water themselves. This means that fleets can move up and along these river borders just like fleets on coastlines can. For example, a fleet could on subsequent turns move from RdP to BAs to SaF to Crt to Asu to Mis to Prn, etc. etc. No special order format is needed. Support operates as normal, though it should be noted that fleets CANNOT support actions involving inland territories while on a river. Just as a Fleet in Belgium could not support an Army Burgundy into Ruhr, neither could a Fleet Santa Fe support an Army Cordoba into Rosario. Also, fleets may not convoy while on a river (just like fleets on a coastal territory may not convoy in standard.)

5. British, French, Dutch Guyana: European controlled territories that are impassable like Switzerland. Tierra del Fuego: Some of the most inhospitable land on the face of this earth. It is also impassable.

6. Victory conditions, turn movement, and all other aspects of SAS conform to Standard in every way. 18 SCs is a solo.

Remastered map:
I believe I have maintained the appropriate topology, but please let me know of any errors.

Basic GM Rules: (Mostly copied from EpicDM's last recruitment post.)

This is Diplomacy, so you should know how to write regular Diplomacy orders. It's up to you to make sure orders are accurate and complete. I won't parse them so if an order is ambiguous it will be ignored. If it's clear what they mean then no problem but if they're at all ambiguous they're invalid. Each unit must have an order for it to do something so an argument like "You could see from my convoy order what the army was supposed to be doing" will not hold any weight. The one exception to invalid orders is that if you use army or fleet designations and you pick the wrong one the order will still be valid since that designation is irrelevant to the order. Sets of orders must be complete. If you send one post with 5 units' orders and a subsequent post with only one unit ordered, only the one unit will be ordered. If two different orders are given for the same unit in the same set, then it will be considered ambiguous and neither will be executed.

If you spot an error in my adjudication please report it as soon as possible. Any error not reported before the next deadline may not be corrected. This includes map issues as well as adjudication issues of any kind.

If you ask a rules question then if it has an unambiguous answer I'll answer it; if it's something not clearly covered by the game rules I'll do my best, but in the light of argument from other players I might change my mind after the adjudication. If you think I'm wrong, I expect you to say so loudly (publicly or privately) and with clear reasons; if you do, I'll listen and consider the arguments (and allow an extension while it's sorted out). If a question is asked privately then it will be answered privately.

Deadlines will always be at 7 am Eastern Standard Time. I'll send a PM when the results are posted with the next deadline.

I will do my best to send out reminder messages to those who have not submitted orders the night before the deadline, but do not count on them. If I miss a reminder, that does not mean you are allowed to miss submitting orders.

Speed deadlines: To finalize orders please clearly mark them as such. (e.g. including FINALIZED in the message) Don't feel pressured into finalizing before you're ready.

Requests for extensions: If I receive a request for an extension I will put it up for a vote and must have more players voting yes than voting no to approve it. Each player may only request one extension per phase. Requests and Votes may be public or private. The requestor is assumed to have voted "Yes".

Please note: if you want a substitute while you're away it's your job to find one and notify me.

Grace periods: If you miss a deadline I will start harassing you and you will have 24 hours to turn in orders. During the grace period orders can still be changed by anyone but can be adjudicated as soon as all players have submitted even if they are marked as provisional. Grace periods are intended to give players a little extra time for emergencies, missing the deadline even when getting orders in by the grace period still counts as an "NMR". They are not intended to continually make the deadlines longer. You have one grace period for the game.

Forced Replacement: If you miss the deadline in one of the following situations, you will be replaced and the game will hold until a replacement is found. 1) Civil Disorder (CD) after the grace period for a first year movement phase, 2) No moves are received (NMR) at the deadline for two phases in a row

I will aim to process the orders at the deadline though there may be exceptions. If you get orders in late but before I begin you'll get away with it. Once I start adjudicating it's too late to change orders.

Errors in adjudication are possible. Check the adjudication and map after orders to make sure everything is right. Any error not reported by the next deadline will stand. If there is a difference between the adjudication and the map that is not noticed by the deadline, the map will take precedence.

Draws: I accept secret or public draw requests. They will be messaged to all remaining players. For a draw to pass it will require an unanimous Yes vote from all remaining players. For a vote to count it must be sent to the GM only and be your first vote on the proposal. The proposer is NOT assumed to have voted yes (unlike extension requests). It will remain valid for one game year or until a single No vote occurs. If it passes I will send it out immediately. If it fails it will be sent out with the results for the following season to avoid timing of who voted it down.

The GM's decision is final.

Please let me know if anything hasn't been covered above and I'll add it as soon as possible.

I haven't gotten into a forum game for a while, so I'd like a spot. Reserve is fine if too many others want to sign up.

There's still room. Be sure to join the discord. Hopefully, we'll start sometime next week if the last 3 spots fill up.

It has been two years since I have played here. Everything from caterect surgery to colon surgery, and a touch of malignancy plus my "normal" chronic issues. But ifIam going to look over the rules, think hard and cosider joining or at least being a reserve if there is any room left. Get back in touch in the nes=xt few days. Curious to see what skills I might retain.
