Play-by-Email Diplomacy

Postby Malarky » 18 Dec 2022, 16:26

One of the things I was considering while recovering following my stroke is running a play-by-email Diplomacy event. That led me to setting up E-Diplomacy and looking to run the E-Dip league and PBEM DWC for 2023.

PBEM is different to playing Dip on a site such as ours. Anonymity? Not so much. Shorter deadlines? Nope - longer ones, in general, although I'm aiming for shorter than was traditionally the case. And, of course, you need to check your email... that's what it's all about!

I'm starting with the E-Diplomacy League in January. if you're interested, go over and register. With longer deadlines, you should be able to fit Dip in both here and there! The PBEM Diplomacy World Championship (nobody else is claiming this title!) will be starting in May 2023. Playdip's getting first notice - I'll be spreading the word over the next week.

E-Diplomacy.

UK-based Simon Langley-Evans runs a Diplomacy zine called Last Orders. He's been running PBEM games for years and has a thriving community of committed players. I'd say mostly older folks, but not exclusively. It's very low stress. The phases are a month long, but retreats and builds are submitted at the same time as moves.

A game lasts years!!

I can put you in touch with him if you like.

I know Simon and read his zine (although I've got some catching up to do!). I was going to mention it to him so he can get the word out. The League or tournament games won't hav deadlines quite as long as that... no zine publication deadlines to keep to!

Is there any resources where emails and messages of good games are shared or available. There is no source like that or articles like that.

It will be great to learn from messages of top players or top games .

I guess some old PBEM can share the messages of top games ....

That is think will be goldmine to learn diplomacy .

I suggest that some very old 10 year back PDL events here can be declassified so that we can learn from top games.

Please share if you have any link or resource like that .
