• Game playable until 1910
• 24hr move, 24hr build/retreat
• Random country selection
• Private game

Advancement:
• Games will end when one player has collected 18 SCs or Winter (aka Fall Retreats) 1910 arrives, whichever comes first
• Games will be scored using Sum-of-Squares scoring (pool 100 points)
• Players may play a maximum of 6 games to qualify for the final round
• The qualifying score will be the sum of a player's best 3 games throughout the course of their 3-6 game season
• The top 7 players in the standings by the end of Season II will advance to the finals game on May 8
• The winner from the final game will receive the grand prize of USD$50

I highly recommend downloading the app to your computer and/or phone. It works a lot better that way than in a browser.

Sweet!

Now I have to find out how to create a proper tournament game in here... It has been 5 years you know :)

Is there anyway to GM a game apart from the school fame type?

Just an idea to have a tournament on here rather than using all these inferior interfaces.

My experience so far is all platforms have their charm. In fact, playdiplomacy is inferior in some ways. Superior in others. Its what you think is important that makes you prefer one over the other.

But part of the point of this tournament is to become a place where people of all platforms can play. You see, diplomacy people can get real defensive of their favourite platform but in the end we are all playing the same game.

I am kind of fascinated by how - sometimes subtle - differences between platforms can create so much animosity between players. I like the banter usually. Its almost like religious discussions. I like those too. But lets not go there.

Yes sure.. there are many ways to play Diplomacy.

The problem may be the rough quantity of games. 6 games at the Online Dip Chamionship, 3-6 games at the Nexus, maybe a little Gunboat tournament, etc. who can afford that all. If I remember well I played maybe 4 games or so in the whole last year.

Apart of that is the Nexus a C-Diplomacy tournament, just to be clear. I'm not so much a friend of C-Diplomacy (center count dip). But it might be a good exercise for those planning to go WDC or other FTF conventions.

I actually ran some analyses on different scoring mechanisms using the results of the previous tournament. We use Sume of Squares. C-diplo is very different. But in the end a good result turned out to be a good result. The scoring method had only a small effect on the ranking. I know people adjust their play style to the method though.

Deciding what games you count in the score matters a lot more. All six, sum, average, drop best and/or worst score? We chose best of three. There are good reasons to question that decision but it worked out last tournament.
