It's a rare day you see France in Rumania, Naples, Ionian and Greece and not just slaughtering Austria!

And I just lost guesses on every front... the position is all of a sudden up in the air again.

And that's the end, folks. It was a good run while it lasted, but I couldn't salvage the position after a few more guesses went awry. Still a really fun game to look over if you get the chance.

Smith's a strong player, although I felt like we were fairly evenly matched throughout that game. Somewhere around '04 I thought I had a good shot at winning both.

It was a strong tournament, and I'm glad to have played it! If this is held again next year I might play again, but I'll have to see if I have time.

Condude, finally vanquished.

I'd be down for that! Our games were both intense and super interesting, as well as radically different.

Yeah, they were about as different as I could imagine :P

The one where I was Austria was, overall, pretty orthodox from my perspective. I'll link to captainmeme's good article on the "Austrian Rush", https://captainmeme.wordpress.com/2018/ ... rian-rush/, which I think lays out pretty well some of what I was trying to achieve and why it worked well in our game (more specifics will come in the AAR - in particular my opening, the Italian Opening, was functionally fairly different than the rush approach he discusses that can be used from a fleet open to Venice tactic, but some of the concepts parallel it pretty decently)

Meanwhile the one where I was France, there really aren't many kind of articles that talk about THAT one :P
But I'd say at least part of it boils down to the rule of thumb that if the game lasts past 1906, then it usually means that France is in control and just needs to mop up enough centers to hit 18. That's more or less what happened in this game even if HOW it got to that point was wildly divergent from any kind of standard process. Lots of swings in momentum there, some key guesses by each of us went right or wrong at different points to lead to a fun but crazy stressful (from my perspective anyway) game!
