Countdown to the Bracket Round 2pc Update

Postby TTBen » 19 Apr 2018, 04:48

ALL GAMES COMPLETE!

The last 2 games have ended and bracket stays as expected. It’s night here but I’ll get some messages out in the morning about starting the games, for now just enjoy making predictions.

Currently there are 32 players with 2 wins or more wins. 4 more people can still get to 2 wins. Anyone with less than 2 wins is officially eliminated. 23 people have 3 or more wins and are guaranteed to advance to the bracket round. Only 8 more can get to 3 wins, so it will come down to tiebreakers among 2 win players for the final spots.

Y = won pool (guaranteed top 12 seed); X= clinched advance to bracket round; e=eliminated from bracket round contention

Once all pool games are over or about to be over, you'll put everyone who isn't tied into the bracket according to their seed, then you'll break ties like: 2-y—JacobL582,6-0,35
3-y—Machor,6-0,35
by calling them both seed x (whatever they end up tying for) but by putting one in the position of seed x and one in the position of seed x+1 so as to best avoid having players play against those they have already played against?

Starting to narrow down the possibilities a little with 36 players still alive for advancement (24 clinched)

— Pool B winner is still up for grabs, though it seems likely to be Fatmo, he has 2 games in progress and takes the Group with a win in either.

— Pool E winner is still up for grabs, it can still be one of 3 players

— final at-larges= With Ccloughley and MildWombat playing each other we are guaranteed a 33rd player with 2 wins (and they both have another game in progress so could technically both hit 2 wins). Since a max of 4 more players can hit 2 wins though, Miller1254 is assured a spot as the top “Net Year” among the 5 players finished at 2-4

Thanks for all the updates! Out of curiosity (and since I can't seem to find the original post where you explained this), how do you compute the tiebreaker for those who have the same number of wins? I seem to remember it has sth to do with how fast you win but I can't get my hands on the formula...

Thanks again!

It is net game year won compared to 1912. If you win/lose after 1912 you get 0 tiebreaker points. For every year you win earlier than 1912 you gain a point, for every year you lose earlier than 1912 you lose a point. Meaning you want to win quick and lose slow.

Using me as an example, I won in 1906 (+6) and 1912 (+0). I lost in 1908 (-4), 1906 (-6), 1908 (-4), and 1907 (-5). So my net tiebreaker score is -13 (6+0-4-6-4-5)

TTBen, is the bracket going to be in the same format as the NCAA tournament bracket, with competitors starting on the far left and far right of the page with their seed displayed (except with 32 competitors instead)?

Well the way it displays they are all on the far left converging as you move right... no one starts far right. At the suggestion of a couple folks during the organization I set up a simple bracket using Challonge. I plan on keeping a copy within my spreadsheet as well though where I can track further detail such as Game 1,2 and 3 results and “scores” of each.
