Do we know that mjparrett is sticking in the league as the permanent replacement for the_discourses? Or did he just fill in for the one game?

I'd check for hidden knives before letting any of us in the club if I were security :P

LoL yeah, that show will be Rated R (adults only)! Definitely won’t be a relaxing game!

Mike was described as “official” replacement in PP, so I’m assuming yes & looking forward to the game. It’s been a while since I had some banter with the Evertonian.

Looks like PDL D1 Mar A ended with an English solo by Martz, greatly executed stab at the end!

Nice win by Martz.

By my tabulation*, Martz is now leading the league. I will save the rest of my thoughts on that for when the February game is over and we have the identities of the players who earned the scores we already know about.

(* I am keeping my own dual scoresheet for D1. One is my tally of the official league scores, and the other is a set of "alt-scores" that corresponds to how the games would have been scored under a system that I am developing. As I did in 2018, I would be happy to share the alt-scores with the D1 players if there is any interest, since it is your games I'm using as my test cases!)

Jay, you’re certainly very interested in the league and the sport, but I notice that you’re not actively participating, why is that? Or are you in the divisions and I missed you?

Thank you.

Just ahead of V in the scores yes, coincidentally in this game the solo at the end took a draw away from V. In the first game V's solo at the end took a draw away from me. :)

I am in self-imposed hiatus due to real-life restrictions that prevent me from committing the time for a single game, let alone a yearlong league.

Even with few RL commitments, it’s not surprising the year long aspect is a discouragement. If PDL wasn’t so good I’d not play such a contest, but for some reason this format brings about excellent competitive games, that I’d not want to miss.
The break until July which will be sufficient to raise the appetite again. I’ve found Dip breaks vital (especially my end of year Christmas break). If I don’t get breaks I stop enjoying it & the standard of my play gets significantly worse.
PDL (& a few interesting surrendered positions mixed in) is quite sufficient for a year’s worth of Diplomacy in my book.
See you folks in July & well played Martz in the March game. Best Regards V

Yes, Diplomacy breaks are necessary to avoid burnout. I've been playing straight for many months until now and I'm enjoying my current break. And indeed PDL is quite the commitment, not sure I'll be able to do it next year too, assuming we'll be able to travel for vacation by next summer. But yes, games are really competitive. Indeed, looking forward to our July game V!
