I enjoy using “Eish.” It fits more often than not.

I am single handedly trying to bring back "Jive Turkey" much to my friend's dismay. Please use liberally.

Pops2112 wrote:'Numpty', also 'Numptie', meaning buffoon - grew up in the West of Scotland, so maybe Pootleflump will back me up on that one. It's just very satisfying to shout at someone - 'ye Great NUMPTIE, whatcha dae that fer'. Then ten years ago in a Crown Court case the prosecution and judge thought the defendant on police CCTV was using racially offensive language but actually they were calling the officer a Numptie. One of the jurors knew the word too, a note was passed to the judge, and an injustice was avoided (although the defendant was still guilty as charged for other abusive behaviour!).

We also say Numpty in Northern England!

I can't believe how often I actually use this day to day. I use this with my friends and peers, and then end up having to explain myself when I use it in front of older relatives. Definitely over used, by me.

In about 1972 Orson Wells was on the Johnny Carson program here in the states, and he did a bit on "You know" and how we Americans stick them in all over the place. It was so funny and made me realize I did the same. From that moment I stopped using the term.
