Here's a snip from this discussion about scoring systems on a webdip thread:

The second type of tournament scoring is that used at the Carnage Convention. I will steal the explanation shameless from JimTheGrey:

“Each game is worth 28,034 D. If you solo, you get them all. If the game ends in a draw, then the players are ranked by center count, through order of elimination, as necessary. If you top the board, you get 7,000 D. Second highest center count gets 6,000. Down to 1,000 for the lowest center count or the first person eliminated.

In addition, each player gets 1 point per supply center at the end of the game. These points essentially act as a tiebreaker. So, if you top with 10 centers, that's worth 7,010 D. Finally, if two players share a rank, they split the points for those two positions. If two guys top the board with 10 centers each, they each score 6,510 D.”

This tournament scoring system has a WTA mechanic, and is noteworthy for caring about rank order. Again, for example, the scoring would look something like:
England: 8; 6508
Russia: 8; 6508
France: 7; 5007
Turkey: 6; 4006
Italy: 4; 3004
Austria: 1; 2001
Germany: 0; 1000

Using a standalone score for the final board would prevent any metagame placement concerns that Conq has. I suppose it still has the potential for draws, if you have the same center count. But, you could then add your preliminary scores. Those scores are not big enough to dramatically change your position on the final board, but would be sufficient to create separation among those with the same center count. The only exception being if Karma and cp7 end with the same center count.

It would void the necessity of draw whittling that some soloist oriented players find repugnant.

Scoring System
Carnage 3.1R
Effective 1 January 2010

Participation: All players who participate in a round receive 10 points that cannot be lost. Any player willing to play, but asked to stand down for a round will also receive 10 points.

Elimination: Eliminated players receive no bonus points.

Solo Victory: A Solo Victory receives 215 bonus points. No additional points are awarded to any other players.

Draws: Draws include all survivors. Bonus points are awarded on the following scale based on the number of supply centers controlled at the end of the Fall turn prior to the draw being called:

1st: 70 points
2nd: 60 points
3rd: 50 points
4th: 40 points
5th: 30 points
6th: 20 points
7th: 10 points

In the event of a tie, an average of tied ranks is used. For example, on a 17-5-5-5-2 board, the 17-center player would receive 70 bonus points, each of the 5-center players would receive 50 bonus points ( ( 60 + 50 + 40 ) / 3 ), and the 2-center player would receive 30 bonus points.

Supply Centers: 0.01 points will be awarded for each supply center controlled at the end of the game.

That may have been used at the Carnage tournament when it was DipCon, but that is not Carnage Scoring. The 28,034 points method highlighted by Buachaille is called carnage scoring.

I'd agree the current scoring system probably isn't the best. It's been in place all tournament so a bit hard to switch it now (especially with final games already underway), but if the tournament returns next year i would be an advocate for seeing that aspect changed.
The first quality that is needed is audacity.

Quick question: Do the medal rounds still end after the 1915 builds per the rule:

- For tournament purposes, games will end after 1915 Builds, at which point the score will be calculated as per DIAS for all survivors. These games will continue until they reach an end, however, as the games are Ranked, and results will not be published until completed.

I believe the final board scoring is not time limited.

PDEC rules, Section D. GAMES wrote:- The Finals Board game will have no End game date.
I construe that to mean ALL of the PDEC round games (since the Silver and Bronze games were tacked on to the rules late and weren't not always explicitly referenced in the first draft).
