Hello from Australia

Postby Squidly66 » 20 Nov 2017, 12:32

Hi everyone,

Just into the first mentor game and hoping it all turns out to be as much fun playing these over-the-net games as the board game was in High School ( all those years ago ).

I was too nice a guy then, let's see if I've changed

Welcome Down Under, to the place where you find and lose many friends. See you at the battlefield.

Is it pretty common in the starting phase of trying to get a game started, where people join and then repeatedly miss the deadline to confirm?

Trying to join 2 games at present ( I am on holidays and stuck at home) and both have repeatedly failed to start as 1 player has not confirmed.

Unfortunately, it is very common. There are several things you can do to lower the odds:

(1) Play ranked games.

(2) Earn Ambassador status by completing 3 games and being sufficiently reliable, then play in Ambassador-only games.

(3) Join the Classicists group and play games that are posted there. http://www.playdiplomacy.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=118&sid=c2111fe638b6704102b91a5d49ed0618

Note that doing these things will also reduce the odds that players miss deadlines and/or surrender, which can be very frustrating.

I have never surrendered and never NMR'd, and hope to keep that alive.
