Do you need specifics on the equipment?

Deliberations last mere minutes, and the following morning, the Tarachi armed forces marshal outside the gates of Tarach to march on the Dwarrowmere lands.

The first attack comes against a well-fortified outpost. 400 Dwarrowmere warriors, well entrenched, are assaulted by nearly 2,000 Federation soldiers, with the full 1,000 Tarach Guard acting as a reserve force.

(Ooc: can someone adjudicate that attack please? The Federation troops are not as well-trained as the Dwarrowmere, but have the advantage of enchanted Nidavellir weapons, and of course numbers. The Tarach Guard are elite soldiers, similarly equipped. The Dwarrowmere should have siege engines, good provisions, and a defensible position from which to fight.)

Were these the only orders needed to be given, or were there any extra ones?

That's all for the first attack - the hope is to win handily enough to prevent further need for force.

No need then, just wanted to make sure that was it!

-------------

The Dwarrowmere outpost was cunningly placed - overlooking a mountain road that was hard, if not impossible, to circumvent. The defenses were well built, and a number of catapults and other siege engines carefully emplaced.

Yet there were only 400 of them to defend it, against almost 8 times their numbers, in the force marching up the road. Though the Dwarrowmere fought well and hard, and drove off the first assault of the Federation forces, the following second attack - supplemented this time by the Tarach Guard, that exploited an identified weak point - broke the back of their defense.

150 of them managed to escape, while a further 50 were captured alive - the remaining 200 were dead by the end of the day's fighting.

Losses were heavier for the Federation forces - 350 of the federation troops were killed or heavily injured, along with 50 more of the Tarach Guard.

The Dwarrowmere scramble to deploy more troops, placing stronger garrisons in the path of the advancing Federation army. Nearly 2,000 trained militia are supplemented by fresh recruits, who are pouring in from across the Clan's territory. The lost fort provides a valuable beachhead into their territory, and they will need to be extra vigilant in the coming weeks.

Not all news is bad, however. The Morraine clan, upon learning of the attack, declares Archon Furycane to be out of line, and secedes from the Federation. Nearly 1,500 Morraine warriors begin preparations to defend their territory, and a force of 400 soldiers is deployed to reinforce the Dwarrowmere. The Mirromai Clan takes longer to make its decision, but a few days later also declares its intent to join the other highland clans. Its battlemages vanish from the southern border, abandoning their posts to trek back to friendly territory. They are aided in their retreat by navigators and guides of the Morchai clan. Although the Morchai do not officially declare for either side yet, they do appear sympathetic to the rebel cause, and Federation forces that rely on Morchai guides and transport find themselves continually, inexplicably, delayed.

The Mardukan of Urak deploys an army of about 2800 men to the northern border worried that this civil war could spill over and harm Urakan interests.

An emergency meeting of the remaining council is called in response to the news of the betrayal of two more clans. The council has few members still serving; representatives from the Dwarrowmere, Morraine, Mirromai, and Morchai clans have been imprisoned, and the Sethhaire and Delwar clans are clearly running the show - the Erech representatives seem content to go along with them. After a few hours deliberation, vast emergency powers are granted to Archon Furycane, who declares martial law in the city of Tarach. Entry and exit become available only to military, diplomats, and approved citizens, who are few and far between. Non-citizens within the city find their rights steeply curtailed, and merchants of both the Obsidian Towers and Na'athari Kingdom find themselves needing to petition Furycane directly for permission to leave. Permission is granted... usually.

Meanwhile, mobilization continues. The Delwar militia completes its general call-up, and now fields nearly 7,000 soldiers, deployed along the southern border to combat orcish incursions. The Sethhaire militia, also called into action, is redeployed from the south towards the forests of the Morraine, and advances with nearly 5,000 soldiers into their heavily wooded outskirts. The Federal army and Tarach Guard, now holding a strong point in Dwarrowmere territory, prepare to advance further. Although the road to the Dwarrowmere capital is protected by two more major fortifications, the capture of the first fort is a major success, allowing easy resupply and a point at which to stockpile food, arms, and equipment, not to mention the captured Dwarrowmere siege engines which can now be turned against the other forts.

Recruitment for the Federal Army continues - at only 1,650 elves, it is dwarfed by the militias of the clans, even reinforced by the Tarach Guard's 1,950 contingent. They are hoping to recieve additional troops soon, and training is underway in camps near the city of Tarach. Nearly 4,000 recruits are drilling with bows, spears, swords, and shields, but few of them have ever held a weapon before, and it will be some time before they are ready to deploy.

That sounds like a good idea, with an orcish army just defeated in battle to the south of that border and retreating ... ;)

As news of the new restrictions in Tarach itself reaches the Councils of Life, a delegation is immediately sent. The curtailing of our merchant's rights of free travel and trade, especially in a city unthreatened by invasion, is seen as representative of a hostile attitude from Archon Furycane - and the delegation of diplomats urges her to reconsider said policies.

The delegation is, at last, met, after much delay. The newly named Queen Furycane accepts the delegation and promises that as soon as the current crisis is over, prior trade conditions will be restored. For the time being, she issues orders to her dockworkers to lighten restrictions, and trade, while not as easy as it used to be, is able to resume.
