I think there's at least 3 without a monarchy at this point - myself, the Society, and Smihurstina. High Dhalro may also qualify, technically, as I don't believe their Skylord has much power compared to their assembly of mages.

Now that I think about it, the word monarchy doesn't exactly capture what system Dhalro has. The Skylord has some executive power but their function is largely ceremonial. They are chosen by the Aerie from a pool of exceptional magicians with the ability to fly. It's also not hereditary since having those powers doesn't necessarily mean your children will. It's a magocracy so bloodlines will always be second to arcane power and skill. The Skylord is the literal embodiment of that principle which is why he's probably more akin to a Buddha or ancestral god than a king.

Does the Skylord stay in their post until death?

In any case, the role sounds more akin to that of a ceremonial head of state - eg, the President of Germany or the Queen of England.

The Skylord can step down whenever they want because they're believed to be the highest being in the world given their powers. But it's generally frowned on because in some cases there may not be a great enough sorcerer to replace them. The Skylord can also be challenged for their position by a rival mage who believes they're the best in the country. The Skylord doesn't have to heed every challenge but like stepping down prematurely it's not the popular thing to do. But it's only rarely that these issues pop up because most individuals who become the Skylord wanted the position and want to serve for as long as they're physically able. There's lots of perks to being revered like a divine figure :P

So more like the Queen then - do Skylords get corgis at least?

Queen with a dash of Buddha, I'd say. The Aerie gave him a zoo on a sky island with a corgi as the main attraction

The Archon becomes Queen on the claim that it's a way to modernize her nation, and take equal footing with the other nations. It's not really about who has an actual monarcy.

7-7 is sending a caravan of fletchers, trained archers, and approximately 100 of our good bows to Nidavellir.

Since the shift in power, the military of Nidavellir is undergoing a massive rehaul. The formations of three new types of divisions marks the first time that anyone in Nidavellir has really given any serious thought to military development. The new military will include two kinds of more elite Guardsmen and a large contingent of Phalangite pikemen. The military is also being made significantly larger than before.

Unit Types
Thunderguard - Dwarven Elite Guardsmen each armed with 1 Thunderhammer, 1 Vindaxr, 1 Hearthshield, and Hefndherklaedi (Vengeance Armor). The colors of the Thunderguard are White, Red, and Gold.
Shadowguard - Dökkálfar Elite Assassin each armed with 2 Myrkrblades and skilled with poisons. The colors of the Shadowguard are Black, Blue, and Silver.
Wotansbálkr (Odin's Wall) Phalangites - Dwarves armed each with a Drengrbani (Warrior's Death or Warrior's Bane) Pike, a Vindaxr, and a large Tower Hearthshield.
Thunderers - Dwarves armed with Thunderhammers and Hearthshields
Huntsmen - Human Light Cavalry, swift and armed with Mantleshatter Axes and Hearthshields
Dark Archers - Skilled Dökkálfar Archers and Rangers armed with Sevonian Longbows and Flametongue Swords

The Royal Host
500 Thunderguards
50 Shadowguards
5,000 Wotansbálkr Phalangites
8,000 Thunderers
2,000 Huntsmen
1,000 Dark Archers
