How comes I lost my Star Ambassador status?

jack, I looked at your games. If you look at your last two finished ranked games in particular, you will notice you were very unchatty for you . For example in game 128024 (your last one you finished) you joined in Spring 08, the game finished at the end of 1916 and you sent an average of less than 2 messages per season. I'm afraid those two games in particular dragged you down under the bar for Star Ambassador.

Well I see, okay. You're right, I joined in 1908 a game with only 3 powers left, inclusive mine. It's difficult to chat with only two players 5 messages per turn, espec in the endgame.

Anyway, the other game (Tit for Tat) was a PPO game, where I wrote a lot by spinning a whole long story around the game in a kind of role playing manner, but yes, the text wasn't divided into 5 messages per turn. How could one send out 5+ messages per turn in a PPO game anyway, without upsetting everyone else at the table?

But still no problem, I can live with that. I understand that you desperately try to stop me playing variants, first by the rating display thingy, now with this. Vain attempts.

Just for the interest: how many games back do you take in account for the Star award?

Pretty easily, actually! Although, and Dipsy can correct me if I'm mistaken, but I believe that PPO games are not counted with regards to star ambassador status, the same as gunboat. I could be mistaken there however.

Nobody's trying to stop you from playing variants, Jack. If anything, the rating system offers MORE incentive to play variants, since now you can more easily see how you stack up to others in a given variant.

Hybrid, I checked your numbers out also. You just completed a ranked game where you hardly said anything at all! Only just making one message per season over the 8 year game length.

Yeah, sometimes there just isn't much to say when people aren't communicating back. Meh, it happens. I've gained and lost the star I think twice now, I'll get it again. I do appreciate you looking into it Dipsy, thanks.

On a side note; I just screwed up in another game. I don't know why, but I thought it was a gunboat game since no one was talking, I was just submitting orders and moving on. Turns out it wasn't GB and in 1907 I fired off my first message. Then in 1908 I got a solo win, not too bad eh.

My mistake Jack - I misled you. Nanook is right, if one of the games I mentioned was PPO then it would not have been counted.

In my case I'm less communicative in games where I step into a surrendered position... in general the alliances are more set or the standards of play not so high by all - so it goes along with less Comms than say a high quality game that I am in from the start. Anyway to allow for takeover situations? Often I'm just stepping in to fill a role.

Yes exactly. Same here. A major part of my standard games were substitution games (with rating shield), if I remember well, whereas the "real" games between them were often my beloved PPO, Fog or Gunboat games.

Till now. Things may change, who knows?
