Shouldn't I be an ambassador

Postby Billman » 28 Jan 2016, 20:41

I used to play on this site years ago and took a break from Dip for a while. I have been back and finished 7 games so far...what do I need to do to become an ambassador? Several of my game were ruined by other players NMRing or surrendering and want to get away from that.

The Ambassador playing class is described here http://www.playdiplomacy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=657&t=43283#p747502. This explains the qualification criteria. The key part is below - remember only Ranked or Norank games count, ie not Friends or Schools games.

• Your last three finished games you played from the start are examined, together with any other intervening activity such as other active games or surrendered pickups
• If you had NO SURRENDERS and no more than 3% NMR rate (excluding Builds), you become an Ambassador

If you think you meet this criteria let me know. However, one thing to check is a common confusion: you have to find the last three finished games you STARTED ( as opposed to picking up a surrendered country). Pick-ups are analyzed too, but only the ones that were played between the three started games. The other possible issue which is a sad quirk is that if a player joins a game that has restarted because of NMR protect, unfortunately the system does not count that as a started game for that player. But that is a pretty rare situation ;) . My bet is that you have not gone back to the last 3 STARTED games :)

Pretty sure I started all four of these as my previous game starts were before FEB 2013

Gunboat fighting (FRANCE): 215
215 for solo victory

Mene Mene Tekel Upharsin (GREECE): -33
-33 for defeat

game (ITALY): 57
57 for draw with GERMANY and AUSTRIA

Classical (ENGLAND): 76
76 for draw with ITALY and AUSTRIA

Be Nice (RUSSIA): -56
-56 for defeat

OK, I have checked it out and your status is correct I am afraid. Having said that, you are almost there :)

The last three rank/norank games that you started and finished were indeed as you listed. Here they are with their start dates and game numbers.

112028 - Gunboat Fighting - START DATE 25th Dec 08:30:28
112397 - Mene Mene Tekel - START DATE 4th Jan 23:25:25
112427 - game - START DATE 6th Jan 04:39:29

So as per the instructions
Your last three finished games you played from the start are examined, together with any other intervening activity such as other active games or surrendered pickups

your actions from 25th Dec 08:30:28 (start of the first of the three) are examined.

The reason you have not become an Ambassador yet is that you last Surrendered on 28th Dec from game 111719, Grey Skies. Since this surrender was in your 'assessment period' it counts, and players cannot become Ambassadors if they have surrendered during the period of their last three started and finished games.

But as I say, the good news for you is that as soon as you have one more started and finished game under your belt, then assuming you do not surrender (and you don't suddenly start loads of NMRS!) you will become an Ambassador because your last surrender will no longer be relevant :D

What? I don't have that game in my game log. Plus If I remember this game was an ongoing game That i joined. Not sure why I drop out of that game but if I did can you look and see by date when I started and ended in that game?

It isn't relevant when you started and finished the game you surrendered from.

Think of it like this; looking back over your last three started and finished rank or norank games, the start date of the first of those games is not the start of your 'ambassador assessment' clock. So in your case this was 25th Dec. The assessment process first looks to see if you have surrendered at any point from the start of your clock, and if you have you are not eligible for Ambassadorship. it does not matter whether your surrender was in a picked up game or one of the started ones or any other active rank or norank game you have, it is an automatic disqualification from Ambassadorship, because Ambassadorship is supposed to be for players who do not (or perhaps no longer :) ) surrender. If you had not surrendered since the clock started, then the process would have checked NMR rates, and assuming they were OK then you are made an Ambassador.

If you want to have a look at the game you surrendered, as I said it is game 111719 Grey Skies. You played from the start, and Surrendered in Spring 1909. Here is the Shoutbox, it was a gunboat game.
