Should Heptarchy ever make it to the main site, we will need to figure out another go-to for aspiring GMs. It's one of the most straightforward forum variants to fill and run.

I have a feeling that could be:

1. Ad Arma- probably one of the most simple variants I have ever seen. 7 players, and the map is small.
2. Baltic- another small and simple map with 4 players.
3. Canton- Assuming that this does not make it to the main site, this is actually a very good starting map. The map might be big, but the rules are simple.
4. Diplpmacy of Ice and Fire- I don't see this game of Thrones-themed variant being a standard variant, because of the heir rules. (which can get really complicated) But it has been played 6 times and a 7th run is about to begin. Plus, it's my favorite variant! Lol no, we don't determine what variants become standard by favoritism.
5. Africa- this 6-player variant needs to get popular. It's simple, straightforward, and the maps are easy to comprehend.
6. Sail Ho!- should we resurrect this variant? This is a cool one, as I saw in the archives.

Those are my suggestions.

There are plenty of other suggestions than Heptarchy for PbF starter games. Heptarchy should not be held back from the main site because it's used a lot by GM's in PbF.

To be clear, I wasn’t suggesting that.

Fair enough.

Ad Arma is a nice variant to take this position. 7 players. No special rules. I have no idea on the balance of it, but from a cursory glance at the map it seems fairly balanced. Perhaps it should be given another run some time soon?

I'm honestly not a huge fan of all the aliasing in the curved outlines. For a variety of reasons, we've moved to using SVG as the art basis for new maps, then using scripts to export every component of the map out as PNG in every color that's required.

If you'd like to find a map that hasn't been ported to SVG yet and try your hand at doing that, be my guest.

Have any suggestions on how to do that? I have these maps exploded into all their layers in paint.net locally so I can do whatever is needed to get them more "site ready."

I'll send you an invitation to my design server via PM. You can start reading up on what I've explained to others and get some advice in working in SVG there.
