Battle of the Sexes - (6/6) - Reserves Welcome

Postby attitudes » 06 Jul 2013, 02:40

I've decided to GM a new variant brought to us by Shibabalo. You can see the original thread here:

http://www.playdiplomacy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=413&t=38489

Rules:

The Battle of the Sexes variant is designed for six players. It is played just like Standard Diplomacy but with the following differences:

- There are two allied groups (Femdomia and Maledomia) fighting as one divided into three countries each (Amazonia, Wittchia, Matronia versus Testosteronia, Ultramagicfiords, Paladinland), which are controlled by different players cooperating or sabotaging each other at will.

- Each group of allies acts like the same troops for purposes of game mechanics. For example, a Testosteronic unit cannot itself dislodge or assist in dislodging a Paladins unit. Allied SC's can be captured by an ally if the supply center is vacant.

- The variant is played out under Fog of War rules. You will be able to "see" the following territories, provinces, sea spaces:

Your home supply centers will be visible to you at all times
    Supply centers you control
    Territories your units are on
Territories your units can legally move to. This means that armies cannot see into the sea spaces.

- Individual maps with movement results will be sent by PM to each player. No results will be posted publicly. Only supply centers will be colored.

- This variant is build anywhere. This means you can build units in any vacant supply center that you control at the end of the Fall season.

- The yellow colored territory of Concordia Island Core has no name on the map because it is impassable, like Switzerland in the Standard game.

- There are no land-only territories on the map, nor split coasts (north/south/west/east). There are only sea and coastal territories so every SC can build either an army or a fleet.

- The six capital territories (CWW, SWW, CSP, THC, FDB, ABS) behave the same way in this variant as Denmark behaves in the Standard game. Fleets or armies can enter it one turn from a sea or coastal territory and pass through to the sea or coastal territory on the other side the next season. A fleet located on one of these territories cannot convoy, same as for normal coastal territories.

- Despite apparently irregular frontiers, all the structures of the territories are symmetric, so the starting chances for every player are the same.

- The starting positions of units are equal for all countries: a fleet in the central SC (the capital) and an army into each of the other two SC's.

Victory Condition:

- The game ends as soon as one allied group captures the nine home supply centers of the enemy group after a Fall season. The player of the winning group that controls the most supply centers at that time will be declared the sole winner of the game. If two or more players control the same number of supply centers, the player controlling the most home supply centers will be declared the sole winner. If two or more players control the same number of home supply centers, the game continues until such time as a sole winner can be declared. A solo victory can only be obtained after a Fall season.

- There are no draws. Play to win.

House Rules

Deadlines

We are running a 72/48/48 game. The deadline for every phase will be midnight GMT which is 7:00 pm Eastern and 4:00 pm Pacific.

I will allow 4 days for the first Spring season discussion.

I will try to send out a reminder email with 24 hours to go. If you send in provisional orders early, I will not send you a reminder email.

I will also run speed deadlines for any season where all orders are submitted early. If you do not want me to use your orders for speed deadlines, put "Provisional" in the message, so I know that. I will treat all submitted orders as finalized unless you specifically say that they are not. You can change your orders any time up until the deadline. Due to the Fog of War rules employed for this game, you cannot change your orders after the stated deadline. Also, order submitted after the deadline will NOT be accepted.

Due to the Fog of War rules, your map and movement results will not be PM'd to you immediately after the deadline. In some cases, it may take several hours. We will make every effort to see that the maps are sent to you within 24 hours of the stated deadline.

game Rules

Standard Diplomacy rules are in affect except where noted. DVFG's standard House Rules are in effect unless otherwise noted in these House Rules.

Please see the Rules thread for further details on specific game rules. Pay close attention to the Victory Condition section.

Country Allocation

Countries will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis but the GM reserves the right to deny entrance to the game. Players that have a storied history of NMR's in previous DVFG's need not apply. New players to DVFG's are most welcome. Players that have previously expressed interest in this variant will have priority. Female players expressing interest will have preference for the Femdomia group. Come on ladies!!!

Orders

Please send me orders with the following in the subject line: game name, season, race. For example, "Battle of the Sexes - Spring 69 - Wittchia". Those can go in any order, but I really need all three things so I can make sure I got all the orders and keep them separate from my other forum games. If you just want to ask a question, the subject should be "Battle of the Sexes - Question". This way, I can distinguish orders from questions and better be able to help you.

Because of Fog of War rules, this game will have a Second Eyes GM. You are required to send all orders to both GM's.

NMR's

If you NMR for the first season I will remove you (If you can't make a 4 day turn, you won't make any).

If you NMR 2 turns in a row I will remove you. If you NMR 3 turns total I will remove you. I count NMR's for build and retreat phases the same as movement phases.

Please do not NMR. If you need out, let me know so I can try to find a sub.

Draws

There are no draws. Play to win.

Adjudication/Map Errors

After each season, you will receive a PM with the results of your moves and your current map. If one of your units bounces, you will not be told what unit it bounced with. You will need to figure that out on your own (or with the help of your teammates).

I will do everything in my power to make sure that your map is correct. The game is required to have a Second Eyes GM who will have the responsibility of double checking the adjudication of orders and each map before it is sent. However, we are only human. Errors can and most likely will occur. We apologize in advance.

I will try to double-check all maps after I send them out. Unfortunately, if a mistake is made and is not corrected prior the next season's results being adjudicated, there is nothing I can do to retroactively correct the mistake.

The biggest mistake that can be made, and the one I am mostly referring to here, is if I do not expose an enemy unit in a territory adjacent to one of your units that you should be able to see. In this case, your moves may be compromised by unseen units. Again, I apologize in advance but mistakes will not be retroactively corrected.

Comments in the Forum

Under no circumstances are players or observers allowed to post into the public DVFG Forum comments that could be deemed overtly sexual. Do keep in mind, this is a relative term. What is not overtly sexual to you may be extremely vulgar to somebody else. I urge you to use extreme caution when posting anything that could be vaguely considered sexual.

Violation of this rule will be cause for immediate expulsion from the game and possible site restrictions from the moderators. Continued violations of this rule will bring an immediate cancellation of the entire game.

This rule will be strictly enforced. No exceptions. GM decision is final.

Does the Second Eyes GM have to be GM-certified? Though I'm not, I'm willing to take the role if it's not necessary :)

Of course. Now we just need a few more.

Unless we can get some ladies, some guys are going to have to show their feminine side. :o

Bump.

I'm actually a bit surprised there isn't more interest in this variant. I think it has some interesting possibilities. I wasn't sure how many ladies we'd get given sinnybee's 4% female population figure. Maybe some guys could step up and take on that role.

Or, I could change it to be football versus rugby or something like that.

Anybody care to explain why you might be avoiding this game? No time, victory condition, Fog of War, premise, GM sucks
