Current Event: FTL

The Fáfnir finally passes checkpoint gamma- and begins to enter FTL. There is yet another alarm, then a jolt, and just like that the ship is on it's course.

This time, however, the loudspeakers did not turn off with the alarm. Instead the whispers of an organ could be heard the transmitters. Those of you with augmented ears could hear it clearly- but to others the music was a soft whimper, heard only in the quietest moments.

Last Event: Solar System
Suddenly, the crew was interrupted by an alarm: an announcement alarm.

The last of the cargo has been loaded, and the Fafnir's massive freight doors have been closed and sealed. It is finally time to leave Aster station- to slip this final tether to Earth and head towards the stars.

There is only one issue... the captain has yet to make an appearance.

He's on the ship, sure, the loading crews confirm that. And your navigator was transmitted the FTL cords AND given the go-ahead to enter space, so he must be on the ship, somewhere, giving orders. But where?

No matter, there is work to be done. The Fafnir detaches from the station. It sits, motionless, for a second, before the sub-light drives kick in. The engine room shakes and rattles but holds, as the ship begins its acceleration to a point at the far of the solar system: a way-point in where they can finally enter FTL speeds. Soon, Earth is nothing more then a tiny dot on the observation deck, a fading glimmer all that could now be seen of the cradle of the human race.

Earlier Event: Embarking
City-station Aster is a hive of activity. From just looking at the Great Mobian station you would not know it: the elegant purple spires and glass-work suggests a station of sophistication and refinement. Perhaps, some might assume, the Aster is some retreat for the druids or bio-techs of the Empire. But they would be wrong- beneath the mats of bio-engineered flowers, and behind the fountains so tastefully placed to please Freya, toiling workers betray this stations true purpose: it is a jumping-off point for off world endeavors.

The Fáfnir lay moored in one of the Aster's loading docks, attended to by a small squad of dockworkers. The great ship was being fed- slowly but surely- with the cargo that it would take to the colony of Reach. Most of this loading work was done by machine these days: great lifts moving the cargo up the loading tubes and securing it into place. But this was far from the sleekest operation Mobius has to offer: and occasionally a worker would stop the machine to fix some problem, or run forward, waving his hands, in some sort of panic.

The cargo is drawn up into the great cavernous maw of the Fáfnir cargo hull. Large nondescript metal cargo boxes are stacked and organized into the vast cargo hold. Where it sits, hopefully not to be distributed before Reach.

But cargo is not the only thing the Fafnir was taking on: the crew was beginning to arrive, as well. One by one the crew boards the vessel to find a somewhat spartan craft. The ship itself is mostly cargo hold: but the crews quarters itself is somewhat comfortable. The living quarters and control room sit as three decks in the heart of the craft: a remnant of the Fafnir's time as a military transport. The space contained decent enough amenities: the crew has access to a proper mess hall and a collection of different bunks and sleeping spaces. Although the space was very noisy-at least at the moment. The source of the noise was a tram running over the quarters themselves. Right now it was loading cargo, but later it could be used to easily access the ship's engine room.

The captain is supposedly on board- but none of the early arrivals have met him yet. No matter- he is sure to make an appearance before the ship embarks. Right?

Character name: Josephine "Josie" Dorrego
Role: Cargo Staff
Origin: Josie Dorrego was born on a farm in the Venusian West, but signed up for the crew of an Aurora cargo ship immediately after high school, working for a company delivering mind-upload devices to Santa Rosa. She left the ship after one voyage, insisting that it was haunted. After her departure, Josie spent the past several months wandering Venus performing odd jobs and looking for jobs in space, until she discovered the new opportunity with Captain Bjarni and his ship. Josie is a typical Venusian, with all the gene-mods characteristic of the species. She's short for a Venusian, less than five and a half feet tall, and has long dark hair.

Character Name: Quinton Marlon
Role: Security Personnel
Origin: Ethnic Bassagolan from West Africa

Description: Despite being a middle aged man, Quinton is a very intimidating man. Broad shoulders, a height of 6' 2", a set of the darkest, most menacing set of eyes of any man, are just the first things that come to anyone who meets this man. For many, this is the last man they would want to meet in a secluded alley. Quinton sports a multitude of scars that reflect the life the man has had.

Born in Bassagolan sixteen years before the Bassagolan Crisis, Quinton witnessed firsthand how his province dealt with the West African Government. When Camilo was elected president of the Union, sixteen year old Quinton avidly supported the Bassagolan Freedom party. When violence broke out, Quinton was quick to pledge his loyalty to his government. When Brazilian troops went through his town, Quinton and his three brothers ambushed the troops with makeshift weapons. Quinton and his brothers managed to kill one Brazilian soldier. Sadly, Quinton's brothers were killed in the confrontation.

Quinton would be imprisoned and sent to prison for his treasonous act, but the new Afzal government pardoned him of his crime as long as he paid for the compensation of the dead Brazilian. As soon as he reached the legal military service age of 18, Quinton joined the Bassagolan Security Forces. However, nine years later the Government figured out that Quinton had leaked military secrets to the Bassagolan Separatist Movement. Quinton was given two options: 1) Be exiled to Costa Serpens of Mars or 2) rat out his bosses in the Separatist Movement. Quinton chose exile.

After being exiled, Quinton entered Techabaun and for twelve years spent time doing who knows what. Many suspect he either worked for a gang or crime family or that he spent a life of poverty. His multitude of scars and rough look lead many to think the worst, though. Then, in 4338, Quinton was allowed to return to the Federation by the Fernand Charlot government of West Africa. Soon after returning, Quinton spent 6 years at the Valparaiso Military Academy. From there, Quinton spent five years in the West African Police Force until he was dismissed after losing his temper and unnecessarily killing a suspect. Quinton has spent the last year unemployed and looking for a job. One day, the 51 year old Mr. Marlon happened to come accross an add for the Cargo Haul and found enough interest in it that he decided to apply for a position. Anyways, Quinton could go for a vacation.

Could we maybe advertise this in the main OFG section to drag a few people in to the game? I understand if you want to keep it wholly in-house and not have to explain, for example, why doctors need special skills to operate on Mobians and Venusians (and who those two groups are), but it could snag a new player, which we can always use.

Character Name: Carter Gonzalez
Role: Security Personnel
Origin: Brazilian

Carter grew up on a farm in western Brazil. His family was poor and could not afford to send him to school. At the age of sixteen he ran away and enlisted in the military. After he completed his training his platoon was sent off to West Africa to aid in the civil war there. Young Carter was eager for adventure and was quite at home in the military. This changed when his platoon was attacked by insurgents during the west African civil war, he was the only one too make it alive. He lost the use of his left arm after being wounded when his platoon engaged the Basagolan insurgents. (Note: he wears a state of the art prosthetic arm). After the conflict he was offered a promotion to sergeant, which he refused. After leaving the military, the troubled Carter returned to his parents farm only to learn the his mother was dead and his father had committed suicide. This news coupled with the things he had seen in the war drove Carter to leave the planet on a voyage to Mars. For the past several years he has been taking up jobs as a security guard for various firms.
