And I'm somewhere in between
I never really know
A killer from a savior
'Til I break at the bendVenus is in chaos. Thousands die daily from starvation, despite generous aid from Cyon, as the transport ships are shot down. Violence of all kinds kills countless more. Government is utterly nonexistent, collapsing as the higher-ups flee to isolated bunkers only to be killed by rogue Stacy agents who really don't care what they have to say.
Venus, is, in short, Hell. The people clamor for government, any kind, so long as it stops the madness.
General Carlos Mitre hears the call. Formerly the third-in-command of the Venusian Army, after the assassinations of the top two commanders, he ended up in command of the much-reduced force. After strong-arming the general of the Rawson and Rio Negro militias, he had established a powerful force that managed to maintain control of much of the Argentine heartland.
Carlos Mitre wrote:My fellow Venusians,
Our land lies broken and burning under anarchic rule. Localism has replaced nationalism, with isolated bands led by robbers stealing from the people and killing those who resist. Those who once protected our nation now array themselves against it. We must bring order out of chaos, law from anarchy, create government where there is none.
To that end, I declare myself the Emperor of Venus. All those who are loyal to the idea of Venusian unity should fall in behind me, as we strive to unite the country and restore its glory.
Initially, few take him seriously, and those that do oppose his rule. The Proclamation of Empire sparked a violent uprising in the Socialist stronghold of Rio Negro, which the Emperor put down with extreme violence, bombarding the city with artillery before moving in with masses of infantry and armor. Half a million died in the bloody urban warfare that followed, but in a way, the bloodshed legitimized his rule.
The soldiers under his command fought with new purpose. Promising to restore the greatness of Venus, the emperor gave his men a sacred mission to uphold the nation of Venus. After some time, they forced their way into Buenos Aries and defeated the Republican Guard, revealing that they launched the virus and putting their leaders on trial for crimes against humanity.
Long live the Emperor.
OOC: Sorry that this seemed half-hearted. I'll probably go back and write more history, but I have some cool ideas for the Venusian Empire, and with Nar's courseload picking up, I want to wrap this up and get a government working, so I can make different posts about reconstruction. You may start talking to the emperor. There's also a chancellor, but I still need to talk about his creation, and we aren't sure which one I'll be and which one Nar'll be.
