I was going to wait for the Möbian collapse, but I got bored so just went ahead and did it anyway. I'm using the excuse that our military is entirely composed of Cairo peacekeepers (remember how I pledged it away before? Yep).

Theoretically, yes, Möbius should be handling this, but this whole thing is basically me offering to help them. If they have any problems with it, they should contact me privately.

Didn't you just say that if they needed them, they could borrow your troops?

Well, yes, but in theory they are all full-time peacekeepers. They would just defend Cyon before fighting for Cairo is all (since they are my entire military).

Besides, the point is these public posts were meant as a sort of offer of assistance to Möbius/Cairo. If they or anyone else objects, we can always withdraw or figure something else out. I know I wasn't totally clear about that, but that was what I was thinking.

Umm, that last post was premature. Our military is on its way, but will not arrive for a little bit. They are preparing to arrive, though.

OOC: Turns out this is messing with the Möbius RP because of uncanny timing.

The Occupation of Cairo

Postby beadsman » 28 Sep 2015, 06:30

Image
The Cyon Imperial Host arrived in Cairo, only to learn of the devastating attacks hours earlier. They were too late.

Thankfully, the League of Cairo is still intact. We are now fortifying the city and beginning peacekeeping operations to aid in caring for the citizens of Cairo. Any help with restoring order and providing for the afflicted would be sincerely appreciated. After the horrifying events in Möbius, we declare that we will defend the city and the people in it. Until order is restored, it would appear that we must temporarily govern the city, but we do so to ease the burden of Möbius as they recover. When all is in order, everything will be restored. This is not an invasion, we are not profiting from this in any way. We are simply caring for a people to ease the burdens of these recent attacks. There do not have to be any more deaths.

While we did not consult Möbius before this declaration, we would like to reiterate that at any point, the government of Möbius may simply ask us to leave and we will do so. This is meant as a service. Our primary objective is the preservation of the League of Cairo, but we will defend the citizens of Cairo as if they were our own.

We are also now sending our newly constructed 41st-50th Argyraspides Legions to Cairo, as well as 10,000 more Heavy Dragoons.

Since the recent attacks on Cairo appeared to come from orbit, we are putting the 1st Imperial Dragoon Battalion on permanent patrol. Of the 50,000 Dragoons available, 35,000 will be on patrol throughout space and 15,000 will be on patrol in the airspace above the city. The CAAF will also patrol the city's airspace to provide added security. ILIAD and the Argyraspides Legions will be on patrol throughout the city itself and will also be working 24/7 to try and rebuild what they can as well as care for the citizens of the city. The CDC will be doing humanitarian work, and the Imperial Guard and CAED will stay
HFPE: in the meeting chambers of the League of Cairo
to defend the BMCU's and Ambassador Fontaine, who are overseeing this initiative. We are putting the portions of the CAAF still at home in the Imperium on patrol as well.

While we have been giving all of our excess food to Venus in light of their disaster, we will be funneling a small amount away from those efforts to care for the city of Cairo. We desperately need assistance in providing healthcare to the residents of Cairo, and help relieving some of our other burdens as we care for the city would be very, very much appreciated.

Thank you,
Ambassador Fontaine

Chapter 11: Shimmer

Postby Subotai45 » 29 Sep 2015, 03:01

And I'm somewhere in between
I never really know
A killer from a savior
'Til I break at the bend

Venus is in chaos. Thousands die daily from starvation, despite generous aid from Cyon, as the transport ships are shot down. Violence of all kinds kills countless more. Government is utterly nonexistent, collapsing as the higher-ups flee to isolated bunkers only to be killed by rogue Stacy agents who really don't care what they have to say.

Venus, is, in short, Hell. The people clamor for government, any kind, so long as it stops the madness.

General Carlos Mitre hears the call. Formerly the third-in-command of the Venusian Army, after the assassinations of the top two commanders, he ended up in command of the much-reduced force. After strong-arming the general of the Rawson and Rio Negro militias, he had established a powerful force that managed to maintain control of much of the Argentine heartland.

Carlos Mitre wrote:My fellow Venusians,
Our land lies broken and burning under anarchic rule. Localism has replaced nationalism, with isolated bands led by robbers stealing from the people and killing those who resist. Those who once protected our nation now array themselves against it. We must bring order out of chaos, law from anarchy, create government where there is none.

To that end, I declare myself the Emperor of Venus. All those who are loyal to the idea of Venusian unity should fall in behind me, as we strive to unite the country and restore its glory.

Initially, few take him seriously, and those that do oppose his rule. The Proclamation of Empire sparked a violent uprising in the Socialist stronghold of Rio Negro, which the Emperor put down with extreme violence, bombarding the city with artillery before moving in with masses of infantry and armor. Half a million died in the bloody urban warfare that followed, but in a way, the bloodshed legitimized his rule.

The soldiers under his command fought with new purpose. Promising to restore the greatness of Venus, the emperor gave his men a sacred mission to uphold the nation of Venus. After some time, they forced their way into Buenos Aries and defeated the Republican Guard, revealing that they launched the virus and putting their leaders on trial for crimes against humanity.

Long live the Emperor.

OOC: Sorry that this seemed half-hearted. I'll probably go back and write more history, but I have some cool ideas for the Venusian Empire, and with Nar's courseload picking up, I want to wrap this up and get a government working, so I can make different posts about reconstruction. You may start talking to the emperor. There's also a chancellor, but I still need to talk about his creation, and we aren't sure which one I'll be and which one Nar'll be.

Ooh, now what will happen to the Republic? And Möbius, and URMA and the Mattibean Union? I am in constant suspense, great posts! I'm loving this.

The winds blow cold in the North.

Strange tidings.

Late last night, there was a nuclear detonation on the Åland island chain. The nuke was a small one, likely a tactical nuke of Nomad making. The explosion heralded a firefight as thousands of NVC soldiers descended on the sparse island of Sottunga, overrunning the mysterious defenders and taking the island. The terrorists held up on the island- an extremist sect of the Yggdrasilli neo-pagans, were quickly defeated, and their leaders captured.

However, this morning, a quarter of the NVC population simply didn't wake up. No signs of injury, no remaining signs of infection, perfectly healthy people just... failed to wake.

The official story is that the deaths were the fault of a nanobot-based virus released by the Yggdrasilli extremists. The virus had infected about 25% of the NVC population but remained inactive, until the attack on the Yggradsilli compound, when it was released as a last ditch effort to damage the NVC.

Due to the Virus the island of Sottunga has been quarantined, and a tinted shield raised over it.

For the conspiracy theorist out there, however, there holes in this story. For one, the nanobots would have had to penetrate Mobian purity devices, which could only be done by a hgiher official in Mobius.

HFPE:

HFPE, except for governments with spy-grade satellites around Earth:
Much more ominously, satellite images of the island show some sort of strange growth emerging from the center of the island before the shield was placed around it. Whatever it was- it was enormous.

HFPE, except for psychics:
Something truly horrible happened in the North. What sounds like thousands of screaming souls, nearly extinguished yet kept just within inches of their life. Even the least attuned psychics can sense this. The most attuned fall over in pain when even thinking about the region. Somethings rotten in the state of Norseland.

---

The NVC host now heads south, to relieve the Cairo garrison.
