My idea with the addition of recruiting games and tournaments with a scroll bar when and if it exceeds 3.
(Or his idea, but reducing the numbers from 5 to 3 and moving messages to the left column.)

Our forum gets less posts per day than it used to; I really don't think it's necessary to have 10 threads shown not including sign-up threads.
Also, the more that's shown, the more likely players will be to ignore or to glance over it.

I'd personally like to avoid having elements internal to the page that require their own scroll bar. I definitely see the point about having too many threads shown; it's difficult to find the happy medium between showing too few threads versus opening the firehose.

As for when "it used to" have more posts than currently, I must not have been active then, because it has been much more active this past year or so than in the timeframe I remember. Play-by-forum activity has particularly picked up steam; 2018 saw a considerable number of games played.

Recruitment is tricky too.

I have no problem dropping the scroll bar. It could just be a list of however many recruitment threads there are.
The order should be:
1) The developor announcement
2) The recruiting threads
3) The three newest threads (not including threads in an above section)
4) The three newest posts (not including threads in an above section)

TheCraw isn't around anymore (over 17,000 posts).
The only person who passed that is mat.gopack, who is mostly irrelevant to this conversation since he's a CYOC player, and their threads don't show up on the home page.
We are also missing a lot of posts from people like Pedros, rick.leeds, The Pez, diplomat42, jkid, Kithchener, Malevolence, ninjaruler, and vindictus, whose posts used to spread across many different sub-forums.
There hasn't exactly been many replacing them as others to post all the time.
Even people like asudevil are posting a lot less than they used to.
People like sjg11 used to be in many different sub-forums, but now I only see him in mafia.

I’m almost at 17k... but not having a computer and doing everything off a phone really has limited my desire to post. So I don’t run PBF games and I don’t play mafia.

16.5k isn't almost 17k, it's half-way between 16k and 17k :P

I'm not sure whether previously most-prolific posters are still the most prolific posters is a particularly useful metric for forum activity.

Not previous, top 25 of all time, which includes current posters.

I have looked at at least 100 threads on playdip per year for the last 10 years (including before I got here).

There used to be a lot more social threads.
There used to be a lot more joking around with each other.
There used to be karma.

Now, almost everything is strictly business.

There were more posts in 2010-2014 than there have been in 2015-2019.

You didn't say closer to 17, you said almost 17.
80% is a B- and 90% is an A-. 85% is a B, not almost an A-.

The rest of that's all well-and-good, but again, I don't think whether the individuals posting have high post counts is a useful metric. Also, some of the social activity has shifted a bit to Discord, which is really a better interface for all of that.

And it's not all strictly business; there are just several subforums that don't show up in the "Currently on the Forum" section because they tend to be a bit too niche. Likewise, there are some subforums that are suppressed for Active Topics. It'd be something we might want to correct for some of the PbF posts too, except that it's a settings change that would need to be made for every single new game.

What's your metric? What's your evidence that my
"There were more posts in 2010-2014 than there have been in 2015-2019."
is wrong?

Discord is good, but we're not talking about discord, we're talking about the home page display of playdip forum threads.

I didn't say it's all strictly business, I said almost everything is strictly business. That is in reference to playdip forum threads that show up on the home page, because that is what this discussion is about.

I am well aware that several subforums don't show up in the "Currently on the Forum" section. At one point or another, I have been involved in every subforum of playdip except HOTW (though I certainly have been in touch with some who have played that).
