Fog of War; Cloud of Amnesia

I wish the Fog of War did not also erase prior maps when you browse through the moves history. That historical information was known and revealed to me, so making it disappear simply gives an advantage to those who go through the trouble of screen shotting each map as it is shown rather than providing any new additional genune fog.

I am totally behind this idea. It has already been discussed here last year https://www.playdiplomacy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=56538&p=924040&hilit=Fog+war+map#p924040
and there was some objection to it but most seemed to agree it was a good idea.

I don’t why it didn’t get implemented or discussed more. Perhaps now is the time?

Be interesting to hear from FoW players. In the past, the argument has been FoW fans believe that it should be hard. They see it as a variant where if you are prepared to put in the effort, you can do better. So the example of histories is a good one, because as you point out if you can be bothered to save the map status each turn, then you have a better view of what has happened (whether that helps or not ).

We could of course change it if that is what players want, but I would want to be pretty sure we aren't going to get torn apart by rabid long-time FoW players

Don't worry, it's hard enough without this kind of absurdity. As a rabid FOW fan I find the lack of access to the past maps is just plain silly, as is the argument that "it should be hard". Design the game to be hard by all means, but don't make it hard by imposing petty adminstrative overheads.

Yes it has been raised before, several times. The objections were very few and were outnumbered. It's past time to take action to fix this anomaly.
