WINNING THE GAME and SCORING POINTS

I have added 2 change requests to the Diplomacy bugtracker.

1. to have the functionality "victory type: single/double/triple" removed.

The concensus is to leave it up to the players to decide who should claim victory DURING the game.

The new rule:
- a minimum of 3 players must have a combined 18 supply centers to declare victory together.
- the player with the biggest amount of supply centers MUST be a part of the winning alliance.

This will prevent three smaller countries declaring victory together when someone is going for the solo win.

2. An update on the scoring system.

It is possible to declare victory with 3 players, but I wanted to incentivize all players to go for their maximum potential.

For each player that is a winner of the game:

2 points for winning the game with 3 players combined
5 points for winning the game with 2 players combined
12 points for winning the game with 1 player

For each player surviving the game until the end:

1 point

For each player eliminated during the game:

0 points

For each player that surrendered during the game:

-1 points

Pay attention: these changes are being developed now. They are not active yet!

I will put up an announcement when they go into effect.

Is it too late to request that Double and Triple victories be made to require more Supply Centers, say 24 and 30 respectively?

I left that out on purpose, because I don't like changing the rules of the game.

I will add that option later, when we go into creating "variants" (like fleet in rome, having 24 supply centers victory condition, etc.)

I think the incentive to keep playing (more than double your points) is good enough once this change is implemented.

I agree, definitely worth the Double or Solo wins with those increased scoring points

Will these scoring changes be retro active, if put into effect?

Or will the previous scores remain the same?

The previous scores will remain the same normally. We may opt for a reset of all scores once we go out of beta as well.

I can understand that, OK. Forget my suggestion of 25 SCs.
Although it must be said - allowing Double and Triple victories with 18 SCs is also changing the rules of the game, which only allows for Single victories and DIAS.

If you kept your proposed points system, but required 32 SCs for Triple and Double, we'd be true purists...

I like how you've stipulated that the person with the most supply centers must be part of a victory. So they either get some deserved points, or some other countries that want to declare must unite and take down the big guy first.

Your proposals "feel right". Nice ideas.

On another site (denes), I've been in a game as the largest player and being excluded from victory. So I know the feeling
