I'd like to propose a draw

Postby Diadem » 09 Mar 2013, 16:42

This game has gone on long enough for my liking. This variant was a nice idea, but it's way too static. Adding 7 supply depots to the same map means the unit density is a lot higher. The result is that battle lines are entirely filled with units, and noone is able to make any progress.

The game has been going with the speed of molasses as a result, and frankly, I'm growing tired of it. I've done some counting, and I think every single surviving nation on the board has stabbed or been stabbed by me at least 3 times now. Some significantly more. We're all obviously good players, and we're all flexible enough to shift our allegiance if the need arises. That and the slow general speed of the game means that a solo simply is not going to happen. And with an odd number of supply centres a 2-way is out as well. So the best possible result is a 3-way. But even that is pretty unlikely given the situation.

I realize that in a few more years England will be gone. And we might even be able to eliminate one further player. But while I vastly prefer a solo over any kind of draw, and a 2 or 3 way over draws with more players, I honestly don't see much difference between a 5-way or a 6-way. They are both "a lot of players left". And England fought a good fight, so he deserves inclusion.

So let's call it a day.

I propose a DIAS.
Draw in Diplomacy Stew 2, playing Italy
Winner Four Seasons, playing England
Draw in Layered, playing Yellow (Russia + Turkey)
Winner Shuffle, playing Turkey
Winner Vain Rats 4, playing France

... but first you must learn how to smile as you kill.

Mentally I'm swearing at you Diadem. Are you ever happy?

Rejected, even if I was in it (I hven't read the details.)

Rejecting a draw without even reading the proposal? That's extremely lame.

But you have that right, of course.

I have no idea where that vitriol came from though. It can't be anything related to this game, I haven't spoken to you in 5 or 6 years I think, and I don't recall our relation being particularly unfriendly before that.

Must be in response to your vitriol Diadem.

By the way, I noticed your Chatbox post about the loss of your reputation lately. Going much deeper and wider than you realise!

I only said I hadn't bothered to read what draw you were proposing. I read the reasoning, and was pretty unimpressed. Sorry.

What vitriol? All I said is that this game is growing stale after 12 years, the last several of which saw little change. How is that vitriolic?

You're clearly not talking about this game. Fine. But let's take it out of this thread then, shall we?
