Mafia Ideas & Discussion

Postby bkbkbk » 08 Feb 2012, 20:52

This is a multi-purpose thread.

You can:
  • Announce game ideas; mechanics or themes that you are exploring and wish to 'claim'.
  • Dump ideas that you have thought of, but thought someone else would do a better job on.
  • Request somebody make a game with a particular theme.
  • Ask for ideas of what would make a good game.
  • Brainstorm on ideas other people have had.
  • Ask publically for help designing, balancing or GMing a game you have in mind.
  • Discuss previously announced games or mechanics.
  • Anything else constructive you can think of.

So yeah. There's lots you can do here.

Have fun!
Regards,
BK

I'll start us off:

I, personally, have had some kickass ideas for games based on:

The Apprentice
West Side Story
Final Fantasy Tactics
The Godfather

...all of which are pretty complex and awesome. In fact, the only one with standard town & mafia factions is also nightless and has 5 sub-phases each 'day'.

They're all in various stages of design, from brainchild to ruleset. Be excited.

BK

I'll claim TF2, (or Zander if he wants to), basically 9 players with 2 Mafia (Spies) who replace a player when they kill them (second accounts for the game). Should be good fun trying to work out who isn't themself anymore!

Very interested to see what you come up for with "The Apprentice".

I just wish I'd had that idea first.

Interesting thread. I like it. (although I'm disappointed I don't have the capability to add the sticky flag that bkbkbk seems to be able to :( )

As long as I'm here, let me ask this. Would anyone be interested in the following "simple" setup:
12(ish) players, probably 3 mafia. All townies vanilla
Each day, all players cast yes/no/abstain votes for EVERYONE (probably through a google form). At day's end, the last set of votes by each player is published; any player with yes/(yes+no) > 50% is lynched. That means multiple people can be lynched in one day.
Mafia get 1 night kill.

Potentially PVO's could be added in, but for now I'm not leaning that way.

Thoughts?

I like that, c4.

The Apprentice is probably the nearest completion of those four, but there's still much to do. If I get it up and running, it will be great.

Or so I hope.

An idea that I'd like to see implemented by someone (maybe even myself at some point), comes in part from the Dune mafia game.

Day One would start without the mafia knowing who their partners are. At the end of the first Day, then they would receive a message from the GM informing them to their partners. Obviously, this would be a game in which the mafia couldn't talk during the Day.

I've got the very rough beginnings of a game based on Greek Mythology. Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades all gathering up various other minor gods and setting them to battle for their amusement and such.

Final Fantasy has been on my radar as well, although I was looking solely at the girls of the various games as a future installment in the Ladies Night series. I've never played Tactics though....

And I wouldn't mind seeing the debacle that was Internal Affairs get some sort of a reboot.

I was too busy to run it myself, but I'd have rather seen it stay on the shelf as Krispy Kreme Blood Bath than have everything go to shit like it did....
