All previous games of Imperial (both of them) were GMd by Waterice man. He took the view that the map was so complicated that the bigger powers should be controlled by somebody who'd played it before.

As I say, just for info.

Not sure how many of those are still around, but I will take a look...but even random countries doesnt mean an experienced player will get them...But thanks for the heads up.

Its a good warning if we do blind auction bid though for people to keep an eye on.

Put me down as interested, though how interested will depend on how badly I'm losing in the Haven game when we get started (like a number of others here).

FWIW I would tend to completely disagree with Watericeman on that one in the interest of parity - hand the bigger powers to the new players to give them more room for error. Though I haven't GMed anything for a while and never bigger than a normal game, so I'm speaking as a player here - maybe from the GM's POV, it's easier to deal with/fewer misorders?

I'm really not trying to influence the decision - I've no stake in it. But as I understood it the thing was that the scale of Imperial is way beyond any other variant I know; it's hugely complex, and the level and style of diplomacy in the game I played was massive (I was lucky to be closely allied with kininvie, from whom I learned a vast amount). It will be interesting to see how it goes with random (or Auction) allocation.

Hmm. Perhaps I should reconsider and sign up. But I really doubt if I'll have time to do it justice.

Waterice Man did random with the ability to request not a certain country they already had...

Perhaps his "random" assured experienced people in bigger powers.

I think the issue with experienced people is that some countries have to literally be in contact with EVERYONE because they are so spread out and everyone is their neighbor...and spending the time to communicate with all 12 other countries is tough...where other countries only have a limited scope so only have to communicate with their neighbors if they want to.

True asudevil, I can't find it. But I distincly remember a post to that effect in the game I played.

There also seems to be a game missing in the Archive!

Perhaps I should say "I'm interested" to get on the OP?
