Imperial V...or technically III now taking signups

Postby asudevil » 05 Mar 2012, 19:25

Ok, so I may end up killing myself doing this, but I think I will be ok. I am officially taking signups for Imperial V...technically since 2 games have been played on the 1861 and 2 on the 1931 map, this is closer to imperial III...but I will call it V for simplicities sake.

Initial people have been contacted/confirmed interest. Getting preferences now, then we will start

I have PM'd all the people who signed up on the first thread... viewtopic.php?f=253&t=26747 and locked it, so everyone post here for future signups.

This will not be a first come first serve, so I will have a signup list for interest, and when I am looking at actually running it, I will send PM's to the 13 players I am most comfortable with.

No offense to anyone I dont pick, but its a HUGE game, with 13 countries and 173 SC's and I dont want to have this game marred with subs/NMR's or just frustration since it will be a long game.

I went with silent preferences and seems to be working well.

Rules are found here.... http://variantbank.org/results/rules/i/imperial2.htm ....but some interesting parts are found below

We will play the long game which means the victory condition will be 84SC's. The game will also end after 1900 if a winner has not been determined by then. The winner in this case will be the country with the most SCs.

Imperial Diplomacy is a variant set starting 1861, covering the whole world. As anyone will notice, the board isn't particularly well balanced in terms of numbers, but those with few units will want good diplomacy, and many of the individual units will be hard to defend

The Starting SCs are as follows -
Austria: 4
Brazil: 4
Britain: 14
China: 7
CSA: 4
France: 10
Holland: 8
Japan: 4
Mexico: 3
Prussia: 4
Russia: 11
Turkey: 6
USA: 6

This is a wraparound map, so some spaces are replicated on each side

The only Canal is Constantinople. Any player controlling Constantinople can move a fleet directly from the Black Sea to the Aegean Sea

Building is permitted on any owned home SC (marked with a square), even if another player controlled it at the start. For Example, if France controlled both, he could build on Berlin but not Rome

Here is the final version of the map I will be using.

How will countries be decided? Blind Auction? Random Assignment? First-come-first-serve?

I havent decided yet if I will run this as a blind auction or random countries. So feel free to post which method you would prefer. BUT DONT SAY WHICH COUNTRIES YOU PREFER, OR IF I DO BLIND AUCTION YOU CANT PLAY.

Its in my thread, but I bolded it since you asked.

I havent decided...its either going to be Random or Blind Auction.

It wont be first come first served since this game wont be filling up in a first come first served method.

I will be taking interest and then figuring out which 13 players will be asked to play. I need reliable players, and this may not be the best game for people as their first Forum Game.

I am interested but it would depend on my standing in TheHaven as to whether or not I would be able to accept an invitation.

That's one reason I want to give it a little bit. 10player Modern and 19player Haven either just started, or are just starting...I want to let people figure out if they are players in those or on their way out....so they know if they have time for this one.

I'm interested in being added to this fine list. I like lists.

I'll vote for blind auction over random start assignments.

New on the site, but a serious old time player - will have a site record of turns by the time this starts, so don't discount me.

You just started...lol...but I wont discount you for that...you will have a month to get a record of reliability...do you know how Forum games work?

I think you said you did Play by mail...its a similar thought where you PM people in the game to form alliances and PM me by the deadline your orders...I figure them out and then post a new map.

I think asudevil deserves an award for this. I'm totally in and would like to see a lot more of forum players join.
More than half of Diplomacy games are ruined because players leave them half-way.
