Planning a League Event

Postby Malarky » 03 Apr 2022, 16:28

I've been thinking about running a League event later in the year - starting September, if things pan out.

The idea is to have 7 rounds of games between Sept 2022 and March 2023, each round starting each month.

The idea would be that players could play in one game each round, with a minimum of 3 rounds played to feature in the scoring. Points awarded in each game would be divided by 7, regardless of how many rounds people were involved in.

So far, so usual(-ish).

Here's the twist, though: Playdip's league would be one of three, with leagues being run simultaneously on webDip and Backstabbr. The top seven players from each league would then be invited to compete in an additional 3 games, one game on each platform. Final points scored from the individual Leagues would be carried over to the Championship, and added to points won in those final games, with the Championship games being scored at 150% to stress their importance (and to give lower scoring players a look-in).

That's the idea, anyway. Any thoughts?

It's a long way off, Chair :) I'll push the idea more nearer the time.

I absolutely won’t play on webdip. Their interface is intolerable. And the way their sister site vdip crashed and was inactive for a month…. Is worrisome.

I’ll play on webdip, when the webdip interface isn’t garbage. Not until.

Well, that's fine.

I know there's something of a history between webDip and Playdip, and I've seen highly critical posts on the webDip forum about Playdip. One player who originally signed-up for the POC / ODC IV withdrew because they didn't like Playdip's interface. They simply approached me by PM and said they were withdrawing. Fair enough.

But nobody is suggesting anybody has to play anywhere. The idea is that each site would have its own event and the top seven players from each would be invited to the Championship event. If someone didn't want to play in that event, they would simply decline the offer. I'd then move on to the next person. Possibly problematic if most of the top players didn't want to play, yes....

Still, the idea's there (and I've already adapted it - i over-thought the scoring, for instance  ) and it will either work or it won't. Very much embryonic just yet :)
