Interest in a Public Press Tournament?

Postby matty8883 » 11 Nov 2012, 22:06

I've been thinking about starting a public press tournament. It's a fun variant, and whenever I start a new game they seem to fill right up so I think there may be interest. If we could get 21 players, I think we could have a great tournament. And since 24/24/24 is a lot easier in public press than classic, I am hopefully that the whole thing could be done in a more reasonable time frame. If each player played in three games one at a time, plus one final game for the leaders, I think 8-10 months is what I'd be hoping for. So if there's interest, please let me know on this thread.

Interested, but 2/1/1 would be a lot better, IMHO.

Agreed on 2/1/1...just for convenience, but I would be down.

You know you can't run it and play in it though...right?

Cause you have to tell who is playing in what games, and that gives you an advantage.

I'd be very interested. I agree its a great variant - IMO its the best way to play the game. In fact I tried to set up a tournament myself, so I hope you succeed where I failed.
24/24/24 or 2/1/1 - either is fine for me.

That probably depends on the format. How about if he set up the games, advertised them through the tounament forum thread and just let the first 7 players join. Have rules such as: no player can play more than 5 games. Best 3 games count. The 7 players with the best score from their top 3 games go into the final. Then its not necessary for him or anyone to know which players are in which games until they are completed

Yeah I had thought of that. My solution was to publish the information for who would be in each game, which I don't consider a significant compromising of the game. But the game itself would still be anonymous, meaning you don't know who's who in your game. Is that still not allowed?

I would run it by Rick...because he knows more...but when you are in it...there's always a little wondering if you put the lower ranked players in your game.

I'm interested, but 2/1/1 would be best for me as well, because my job can tie me up for 24 hours at a time with only a few minutes free to check my computer during breaks.
