FOC Semi-finals & Final Match Ups & Results

Postby thewysecat » 23 Mar 2012, 01:23

I have only had agreements and no objections, so the semi-final line ups will be the winners of the following matches from Phase Two:

W2 v E1
W1 v E2

Thus far that translates into:

SF1 Prufrock v Morg
SF2 thewysecat v Bwlvych

The format for the semi-finals can be found at: viewtopic.php?f=329&t=22569

Basically two simultaneous games are played with each player playing EFR in one and AGT in the other. This repeats until a winner emerges by taking a two-game lead

How did the semi-finalists get here?

Our first semifinalist is Prufrock

He has a 5-0 record. 3-0 as EFR and 2-0 as AGT.

He has defeated stvr1050 as EFR in group 3
Then Bwlvych as EFR and Presser84 as AGT in Phase One
Then Asudevil as AGT and Bwvych as EFR in Phase Two

Our second semifinalist is Bwlvych

He has a 5-2 record. 4-0 as EFR and 1-2 as AGT.

He has defeated ak47 as AGT in group 4
Then lost to Prufrock as AGT, but defeated Sitting Duck and MisticX both as EFR in Phase One
Then defeated slippydippy as EFR, lost to Prufrock as AGT and finally defeated Asudevil as EFR in Phase Two

Our third semifinalist is...err... me

A 5-0 record. 3-0 as EFR and 2-0 as AGT.

Defeated stvr1050 as AGT in group 3 (coming in as a replacement for the eliminator game)
Then Slippydippy as EFR and MisticX as AGT in Phase One
Then Presser84 and Morg both as EFR in Phase Two

Our fourth semi-finalist is Morg

A 5-2 record. 4-0 as EFR and 1-2 as AGT

Lost to Asudevil as AGT in group 1 and then defeated sjg11 as EFR
Then won as AGT against Yorkshireman and as EFR against Sinnybee
Then won as EFR against Maucat, lost to Wysecat as AGT and finally won as EFR against Presser84

I will designate the games:

SF1a & SF1b and
SF2a & SF2b and then increase the letters from there if necessary...

This time I will make the game preferences so be sure to pick the right sides - one game as EFR and the other as AGT

Both of the first SF1 games have finished with a 1v1 result.

Prufrock won as EFR 17-17 by consession
Morg won as EFR 17-15 by consession

Despite the rules which require a 2 game lead, rather than extend this duel, I have conceded the position of Finalist to Prufrock. He's played quite well and creatively and I think it would make a more interesting final Face Off. I made this arrangement through the public press feature of the games and Prufrock has accepted.

Thanks, I think it's been a lot of fun, perhaps imperfect, but fun.

Thanks Morg! They were good games, and I expect we'd have to play several more before one of us had a clear lead. As long as this arrangement is acceptable to the tournament director, I look forward to playing in the final.

Semi-Final Game SF2b: thewysecat (E/F/R) 18 SCs defeats Bwlvych (A/G/T) 16 SCs by concession

I guess I cannot dictate to Morg or Prufrock what they choose to do so let's play the final and then we can put this tournament to rest

Will set up the games now

Not sure if anybody else is following these games, but thought I'd post a quick update about the Final Match.

Round 1 we split: we each won as EFR, by concession.

We're currently in round 2, in games titled: FOC Final Game F3. I'm looking forward to the AARs for these games once we finish.

As I said a lot time ago E/F/R is winning all the final games...
Without a big mistake by E/F/R, A/G/T has no chance of victory...
So the first phase of the Tournament will be decided simply tossing a coin deciding who is E/F/R...

Wow! They're still at it!
What about evening things up a bit?
I haven't looked at any of the FOC games in months, but how about a new rule that F/E/R has to hold all units in S 01? Or can order Russia but has to hold French and English units in 1901?
...and I've always thought that 17-17 should automatically go to G/A/T.

I agree this variant is unbalanced and efr has a definite edge, but I disagree that agt requires a major mistake to win. Several minor mistakes will do, as will a whole sequence of good guesses on AGT's part.

Full disclosure: I think thewysecat is a stronger player than me, and when he wins this final I don't want it to be interpreted as being entirely due to a blunder on my part :).

Congratulations to thewysecat for his victories as both AGT and EFR in games 5 and 6, securing his place as the FOC champion!
