Gun Control

Postby Constantine072 » 15 Dec 2012, 01:24

Numerous atrocities have occured over the past few years, 2 even within this year. It should cause us to ask, is their enough gun control, and if not how will you fix it?

The timing of this is off. Can't we think about the victims, instead of rushing to politics?

I'll say something in 24 hours.

This has been mentioned 3 times know. It is worth reading the previous threads, which pretty much sum things up. Other than that, agree with diplomat

I think it's necessary to talk about this in a new light.
However, given the situation/time this was posted, I think a better title is "How to Prevent Mass Shootings." Eliminating guns isn't the only solution.

There seems to be an major shooting incident in the US about once a week these days, so waiting for some magical time where guns aren't a tool used to kill a bunch of people simply isn't going to happen.

I think that's a bit over-cynical, but unfortunately it's nearly true...

So, if you agree with that sentiment.....then you realize that your comment about the timing being "off" is nothing but a transparent deflection of a difficult conversation. Obviously the topic of gun control is a touchy one here, but we seem to be the only country that can pretty much count on multiple mass-shootings every month.

The timing will never be "perfect", but the longer it gets delayed, the more body bags we will need.

No...the timing will never be perfect. But NOW is not the best time. Before the mall shooting and today's, when was the last mass shooting?

The Sikh Temple one in...was it September or October.

I'm going to stop arguing with this final thought:

Can't we give the victims a couple days?

It's comments like that which keep the problem from being solved.

"Give the victims a few days" = Let the sense of urgency go away, so nobody will think about it until the next time it happens. Keep putting off the issue for as long as possible.

What's more disrespectful....having an honest and productive conversation about the issues that created those victims, or ignoring the problem so more and more keep victims piling up?

I'm not saying "Ignore the issue," I'm saying "Spend a couple days thinking/praying for the victims and their families, and THEN have a serious discussion about the issue"
