Marking.

UDC, excellent scum game as always. Props to the rest of the scum team too.

I have more thoughts on this game but I'll get to them later.

Thanks all, yay team. But also, apologies to all, both town and scum. I'm not proud of how I just kinda bailed.

I think I really could have had a great game if life had happened differently. And I really thought I could handle staying in, I just... wasn't ready for how it would fuck with my head. I lost the glee I'd been finding in deception.

I might just post the same thing I told Nimb though because I really need to get it off my chest:

Ever since WBZ Mafia, I feel like I can't regain my prowess on the game. And every single game, there's always the threat that I'm the first out given that no matter how hard I try, I'm going to make a substandard statement that gets me killed.

But yeah honestly, if I feel like I can't improve at my game, and if I'm always going to be persecuted on Day 1, I might just as well quit Mafia.

It's not becoming healthy for me anymore to always be the first out. I'll say that.

And honestly the scumteam played really well but boy did they really make me feel shitty that I was crying myself to sleep last night (the day before I was killed).

Caveat: "Quitting" mafia means quitting from playing. I'll still hang out with you guys.

Following on AK's post just now: if he does play again, I believe a blanket "Do not kill AKFD Day 1" policy would always be in town's best interest. He is too easy for scum to push a kill on, and I felt like a genuine asshole for it.

I will say, while this was fun, I'm still not 100% sure Mafia is totally the game for me.

I felt so shitty making votes like AK and Shark because I felt pressured into it, and I genuinely think I couldn't bear the guilt of being actual Scum.

AK, for what it's worth it was an honor playing with you. I hope I get a chance to know you better, even if it's just from us gossiping in a spec chat.

AK and I chatted about this, I think this game it was largely not his fault: scum did a lot of work to drive that misskill. They had caught on that he was a PR and wanted a PR dead.

Roles commentary is in, some design to come.

(Assuming there are spec chats for people not in the game but who want to watch the game happen anyway)

Hey AK! It really sucks that you have this feeling. I totally get where you're coming from, as I also had a long string of D1 yeets a while ago. I think it's a self-fulfilling prophecy, that once a player starts getting killed D1, they play more cautiously, which then looks like scum play, and so they get killed again. There's probably an underlying fallacy from the town there.

The good news is that it does eventually even out. People aren't (too) stupid. It seems like people are already starting to realize that killing you D1 is a bad idea. I really hope you keep playing, and I'm pretty sure it's only going to go the right way from here.

Keep your head up!

Something someone told me once kind of stuck with me in terms of maybe feeling "bad" or "guilty" if you are a wolf. Which is a completely understandable way of thinking. You're playing the bad guy and know that everyone else has no idea what's really going on and might be trying really hard and putting so much effort in trying to figure out who is a wolf and reacting to suspicion.

Basically, the way this person explained it was that like...everyone signed up for this game. And yea, you did rand wolf and don't get to be "with" the majority of players who are trying to solve it. But it's kind of your job to actually try to play well in order to actually give the townspeople a game to play. Like you are trying to build all these obstacles in order to make the game harder to solve. Trying to give the town the hardest puzzle to solve and seeing if they can figure it out. Like you're actually a vitally important part of the town having a game that's actually compelling/interesting and challenging.
You don't know what I'm thinking...because I don't know what I'm doing.
