I was stupid enough to have sold my copy of Deluxe Diplomacy. I loved the little flag stickers on the wood blocks. I also like how it came with the same material in the "Gamer's Guide to Diplomacy", and a plastic tray to hold said blocks.
I still enjoy using my 1985 AH edition, with plastic pieces. Some people don't like those, but I think that, being smaller than the wooden blocks in previous editions, it doesn't obscure the names of the provinces.
I still own:
1985 AH bookcase edition with plastic stars & anchors (as I mentioned)
1961 Games Research edition in a long maroon box with wood blocks and a bifold map.
1999 AH/Hasbro with the metal pieces (I like how they have 10 fleets and 10 armies for each country, so less chance of running out) and the little square counters to denote supply center ownership.
