The vote is now closed. We will change to keep histories for FoW games. This wont happen immediately though, because there is a danger that if we just use the current mechanism for displaying game histories we could cause ourselves some space problems. However I am working now on a new mechanism which will make it possible to do this without impacting our space too much.

I will put up an announcement when it is ready.

OK, a question.

In the Order History for normal games, you see the map of the selected year/phase and the movement arrows. As we know, in Fog at the moment you only see this information for the current year and not previous ones. Trying to look at a previous order history just shows you a blanked out map.

What I am proposing to do is to add back the map that the country saw on each previous turn, but without the movement arrows. So what you would see is your order resolution as usual, but the map would not show the movement arrows, just the result. How does this sound? Is losing the arrows on old histories a major issue? You do of course have your order executions, so the arrows are only to add a visual representation.

I’d say this loses about 10% of the benefit vs other games. 90% of the need is in knowing what units were where. And anyway you never saw arrows for enemy units.

I say if it takes more than a reasonable amount of time or storage space for you to add arrows for historic phases then it should not be done. Of course it is up to you, super_dipsy, to quantify the term reasonable.

Will the orders we could see be represented in text?

Well I don't know if it's worth the effort. I'm alright with what we have actually, as I can well remember all of my proper moves. And those of the others are hidden anyway. Except at the end of the game, when everything should be revealed.

Yes. For each phase/year, you will see the normal order resolution (for your country only of course) and a map of the resulting position. The only bit missing will be the arrows superimposed on top. I am trying to manage the increase in storage space, and doing it this way I can do it with no extra storage used.

No need for arrows. The map visibility is the thing.

And at last we get to see the orders phase outcome before a rapidly finalised retreat phase.
