I'm officially declaring the game dead.

Thanks thegame. Pity, but it happens.

Was there time to decide whether it's a good variant as it stands, needs a few tweaks, or a major rethink? Would be useful to give a clue in the pen picutres.

Mr.Pedros , I have ideas for reviving winged Diplomacy . I am registered with a Variant called Layered Diplomacy . In layered variant there are 2 boards upper and lower board .
viewtopic.php?f=253&t=51050

With 2 board formant got this idea of how to include Fighter Jets in Diplomacy .

Some one suggested there that already you have worked on this concept .

(I think the game I'm thinking of was called winged diplomacy, but I'm not positive. I know they were called wings, at least. Modern also has used flying elements in the last, though from reports they weren't very balanced).

This layered variant has given me an idea for how to include Fighter Jets in Diplomacy . Following are some pointers

Jest will move on the upper board .
Jets are raised on lower board SC and then are moved on the upper board for combat.
Jets have ability to move into all the terrotories occupied by one country , those which are touching each other . For example Italian Fighter Jets

Spring 1901 Raised in Naples . (Lower board- LB )
Fall 1901 moved to Piedomon (Upper board - UB )

Jets can move in other country space which have to be adjoining territory but with support only

Spring 1902 FJ Pie to Marseilles (UB) , Support from Fleet Gulf of Lyon (LB)

Once in airspace of another country , a Jet can again move into any unoccupied territory and if supported then occupied territory of other country .
Jets can be conveyed same as army over fleets on lower board.

If you people like the ideas we can discuss this further

Once again...unless you're proposing to do this with this specific game...your post really belongs here, where people will see it and comment, rather than in a post declaring a game dead from four years ago: viewforum.php?f=413

Side note: this is neither of the games I was talking about.

Hi HIndu_Warrior. There's a lot to unpack in this!

Your idea is very different from the one I ran about a year ago (see viewforum.php?f=627 ; game 4 there also used Wings in a similar way to my game but with different detailed rules for the Wings.) There is a fairly comprehensive set of links to various sets of rules and discussions about possibilities at viewtopic.php?f=413&t=48705&hilit=wings#p816821 which you might like to look at.

My version and similar ones didn't use a separate layer, but operated as essentially a series of sorties turn by turn, but there have been some ideas using what is effectively an aerial layer; you will find references in those links.

But to my mind there are two big problems with desigining an aerial variant. The first is how to get the Wing units the right strength. In the two Modern games I referred to above the first, in game 4, had Wings which were almost no use at all and one player commented that the winner managed to win precisely because he didn't use them. In game 5 however the Wings were too powerful and dominated the game. I don't think anybody's cracked this one yet!

The other issue is how detailed to make the operation of the Wings. Most ideas want to include various abilities, often including transporting troops, paratroops, etc and some suggestions even included refuelling! But one of the core features of diplomacy is that it's played on a very big but a very coarse-grained scale - one unit deals with and controls a whole country. Detailed Wings are unlikely to sit easily alongside with the way armies and fleets operate.

Just thoughts. But I suggest if you want to take your ideas further you open up a topic in this Development sub-forum. You'll get lots of input!
