I vote No to any use of IM in the tournament setting. For regular games sure. But if you know the screen id for player 1 in game 1, and see it again in game 2 3 or 4 then you now have an advantage over everyone else. No disclosure, no IM. Use the site and play within the game.

PS - Samarkand! I love that sig line of yours. It sounds so much better at the end of your posts than when I wrote it in the game.

I'm willing to agree to it. But honestly, I don't see the problem. It's communication, same as anything - friends playing here will talk in real life, friends from other sites may talk on the other site, etc etc. So what if we don't use exclusively the messaging system in place? And what's so bad about it? It's just the same as if two people were messaging each other back and forth in a game when they're online at the same time. It does not make things necessarily easier, either - you can't take time to choose your words carefully, and you have to face any slip-ups you make without time to figure out a good excuse, etc.

But MR its an Anon series of games. If you and I IM each other we will both know which country the other is. Does not not provide an additional advantage that potentially imbalances the entire game. I mean everyone knows I will want to instantly be your friend to the end and do what you tell me to do on all my moves. That means you get a huge advantage. I still say no, bad idea.

If you get the information in game somehow, or figure it out like we did in Gunboat, then those are the breaks. Otherwise the game loses it anonymity and is, as a result, unbalanced.

Oh yes, I forgot, having you do everything I tell you to will be a tad unfair for the others. Maybe I'll hold off this one time.

Oh, I agree, no MSN during an anonymous set of games. I was just talking about in general, I don't have a problem with the idea.

We agree then actually. In general I have no issue with teamspeak, MSN, or any other alternative method of communication.

We seem to do that a lot, actually. Agree, I mean. We just seem to like to throw it around in debate first.
