Sent Messages vs. Outbox?

Postby Satillian » 28 Jul 2011, 23:45

This might be in the wrong subforum, but I couldn't find a better place for it, so here goes, it's a relatively simple question about the private messaging system:

I've been on the site for quite a while but I only recently started using the private messaging system due to my involvement in a forum game. I was just wondering what the difference between the outbox and sent messages folders was? For example, I've composed and sent messages and a couple have gone in the sent messages folder, while others have gone to my outbox, if they go to the outbox does this mean that they have not yet been sent and the recipient has not received them and they are waiting to be sent?

When you write a [P]rivate [M]essage, and hit send, it sits in your "outbox" until the recipient opens his in-box. At that time it moves to your "Sent Messages" folder.

This is nice, as it lets you know when someone hasn't seen that you sent a message yet.

Ahh, I see. Yes it is very convenient, especially for forum games, you know whether or not they're just not responding to you, or haven't read it, thanks!

correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't it move to the "sent messages" when someone sees the message in their inbox, whether or not they actually read it? because Pedros promises us he doesn't read our orders in War in the Americas until adjudication, but the messages leave the outbox before the deadline.

either that, or Pedros lied to us

This is true.

Specifically, your messages go from your Outbox to your Sent Messages precisely when somebody opens their inbox -- not simply that they log on. They still need to open the inbox. So, if your messages have been sent to your Sent Messages, it means that the player at least saw that you had sent them a message and saw the subject.

The flip side of this is that on the top you'll notice that '(0 new messages)' link up top, or whatever number. If you have say, '(2 new messages)' and don't open your inbox, it stays that way until you do, regardless of whether you log in again or not.

I also believe that you can still edit any PM's while they are in your outbox.
