Game with one player left

Postby TheSlyHunter » 13 Feb 2021, 08:00

Hello all!

Imagine a theoretical game in which all remaining players except one were auto-surrendered due to time as it is a protected game. Playdiplomacy.com leaves the game as active, despite only one player remaining. This situation seems strange to me!

Must the player simply gain 18 supply centers in order to achieve a victory?

Thanks!

Is this theoretical, because - as I understand it - in that instance the remaining player would be declared the winner, without having to play on...

Yes, it is a bit odd I know. The reason is that at Playdip we want to give every opportunity for games to be picked up by other players to try to ensure they run with as many players as possible all the time. That is why in a Protected game for instance we extend the deadline if someone surrenders, to try to get a replacement in before too much damage is done. Although 1 player is an extreme example, the same principle applies. If you think about it, there isn't actually much alternative - you certainly don't want a player to get a solo 'by default'.

Hopefully if ever that situation did arise, others would jump in, particularly if some of the surrendered coutnries are in good positions ;)

Could you propose a draw, select the only available participant (yourself) & unanimously approve a “one person draw”.
Thereby getting the solo before anyone jumps in?

Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished.

Nice idea V :) but no. You can't propose a Draw with only one country in it.

If it did just so happen to be a friends game with a password, that remaining player might just have to get to the 18.....

That makes sense that it's waiting for other players to join, as it doesn't know if other players or friends might join.

Thanks for the answer!
