I am new to Play Diplomacy Online and I am trying to understand surrenders.

For Aspiring Classicists Members the criteria states:

For players who have finished less than 5 games:
1 game finished (without surrendering).
For players who have finished 5 or more games:
No unjustified surrenders in most recent 4 games.

Under my statistics "Meef1962", I show no surrenders (I was defeated twice, but never hit the surrender button):
GAMES
Active games: 5
Pending games: 0
2 finished games
0 solo wins (0.00% solo rate)
0 draws (0.00% draw rate)
Longest streak of wins/draws (premium only) = 0
0 surrenders (rank games) (0.00% surrender rate)
0 surrenders (norank games) (0% surrender rate)
46/46 turns taken (100.00% consistency rate)

The statistics I have under "You (Premium)" it shows I have two surrenders:
Total surrenders per country:
ENGLAND: 0/0 (0% surrendered)
ITALY: 0/0 (0% surrendered)
AUSTRIA: 0/0 (0% surrendered)
TURKEY: 0/0 (0% surrendered)
RUSSIA: 0/0 (0% surrendered)
FRANCE: 0/1 (0.00% surrendered)
GERMANY: 0/1 (0.00% surrendered)
Total: 0/2 (0.00% surrendered)

Which surrender statistic counts toward A Classicists qualification? I was defeated twice but I never surrendered?

Thanks Meef1962

Meef1962, you're misreading the second set of stats. Your "You (Premium)" stats show 0 surrenders. Please feel free to apply as an Aspiring Classicist.

Thanks Petunia, I am blind and misunderstand the stats. :)

Thanks Petunia. Meef you've probably worked it out by now but it's worth stessing, a defeat is not a surrender. No shame in being defeated, happens to everybody. But if you are someone who hangs on in there and lets the game finish without surrendering then the Classicists is where you belong. Hope you decide to join us.

I wonder what has the discussion been regarding specifically mentioning surrenders in the Constitution Core Values?

It's an interesting point though. As far as the bit about where it talks about surrenders in the core values, Carebear is right it is not explicitly mentioned. Everyone in the group basically understands that it is at the heart of the second core value (Reliability), but it wouldn't hurt to make it a bit more explicit. As far as the point about what has the discussion been, the issue of avoiding surrenders is so central to the heart of why the Classicists exist at all as a group that there probably isn't much discussion documented because it wasn't necessary. Anybody who is not surrender-averse has no affiliation to what the group is about.

Based on some of the recent applications, I feel it maybe needs to be more clearly stated in the core values. Just my opinion. We want people to really understand what they are signing up for...

Without having read the Constitution at all recently, I tend to agree with Carebear here.
