Watch the 2020 World Diplomacy Championships

Postby Woolgie » 19 Dec 2020, 14:29

The Virtual World Diplomacy Championships kicked off yesterday, and round 4 of 6 is already underway.

The review commentary for all the games in the first three rounds ahave already been posted on YouTube and you can watch them here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifj1d8_KnzU

There are plenty of PlayDippers involved in the championships, and seeing I don’t know what many people's real names are I won’t just single out the few I know. But I’m playing, and you can catch my commentary at 1 hour 5 minutes in.

If any other players want to point out who they are and what games they played in, please do so.

Go check it out, even if not involving any PlayDippers there are some great games to see, and some very impressive manoeuvres and stabs that have taught me some new tricks.

@Woolgie - Thanks for the information. We armchair diplomats appreciate it.

Nearly as much fun observing as watching boxing matches with my dad. Is there blood in F2F play  ?

Good luck to you and all my PDO friends this weekend!

In normal f2f play there is often blood. The corners of tables can be sharp and also falling down drunk cannot be ruled out. With virtual f2f I’m not sure it’s so bloody.

I second Woolgie's recommemdation to watch the VWDC with the top board on Sunday morning (12 est). These virtual tournaments do help capture the pace of f2f tournaments and the DBN coverage is outstanding!

I've played with many people on here and this will be a chance for you to see me beyond this anonymous profile since I'll likely be playing on the top board. I do like the idea of our community both online and in person getting to know the faces behind our usernames but understand that's not for everyone! -- Matt Crill

Oh wow, that’s the famous PlayDipper and WDC final boarder Matt Crill!

I shall be watching the game tonight. Good luck Matt.

Best of luck Matt.

Pootle, Scotland and Fly the labrador puppy are rooting for you in the best way we know how - pink gin and minstrels.

Just remember, if there are Australians on the board - they wear thongs on their feet. It caused a little confusion on our board....

Thanks to everyone for the kind comments despite the top board not going well for me, lol. I appreciate the support!

I do encourage anyone considering a virtual tournament to sign up for the upcoming Cascadia tournament with two rounds on Jan 30th, 2021.

It was a joy watching the championship round and the coverage. So excited when you picked my favourite, Matt - Austria.

Great hanging out with other Dip enthusiasts, though some stayed up too late ;) .

I got to sleep at 1:45 and was up at 9. My eyes barely work today from all the screen watching.

Well done Matt for making the final board. It was one amazing game all round, and the live commentary made it very engaging. #stogie #whoshotedsullivan.
