We should coordinate so we all stay in the same hotel

If you fancy somewhere more upmarket with late bar etc then try Shrigley Hall. It's a 10/15 min taxi ride outside Macc but a good place with a nice bar which I assume they open pretty late. And you can soothe your hangover with a morning swim!

Also Mottram Hall and Alderley Edge Hotel are equally nearby and similar types of venues.

Sadly all were outside my budget for our first event venue, but maybe next time!

My 19yr old nephew has agreed to take place 13. he likes boardgames but for Dip he's a newbie so please be slightly gentle to ensure he comes back for more on day 2 :D

Are we 100% sure Greg Mostyn is attending?

Phleg - that’s a great gesture with your nephew and I’m sure we’ll all treat him respectfully. If we do get stuck on Saturday with 13 I would volunteer to play on two boards. On Sunday I would prefer to play a variant. I’m really looking forward to this event! It will be a great reunion with old friends and meeting new!

I've just had an email from a potential number 14, so I'm optimistic we'll do this!

A 15th would be brilliant as I'd like to be able to adjudicate and host the event to make sure all goes well, but 14 is good enough.

If we can do one variant and one standard on Sunday I hope that will cover all tastes, so that works well for me.

Have people decided on hotel(s) yet? The chap who emailed as number 14 wants to be able to stay somewhere where there will be other players and I promised him I'd find out asap.

Yes that's a good idea, and it would be nice if it was within walking distance.

(A spa is not a condition, though I would adore it to sit with Pootle in the jacuzzi tub, Champaigne in our hands.)

I think none of the walking distance accommodation has a late bar, so I suspect you'd have to get a taxi for that feature.

Plenty of pubs and bars in walking distance of the venue though, including a Wetherspoons for Jack, so hopefully that will meet all liquid-refreshment needs!

Yes, inclusive pub food. We may let fall the late hotel bar requirement, in favor of surrounding live bars..

OK - I've just booked a room at the Travelodge Macclesfield Central. It's just an 8 minute walk to the venue and very close to the station, shops, pubs etc.

I've booked the saver rate at 41 pounds for a double room, without breakfast (their "breakfast box" sounds ominous) and I think that's probably the best value for money you'll get in downtown Macc.

Looking forward to this event greatly. See you soon!
