It depends what type of event you want...

If its for newbs then i have one friend i could ask he is keen but doesnt know how to play so...not sure

There is that D8ve S8mpson on FB he is the organiser of Manor con and midcon. ... he was trying to orgainise something called scottishcon in Edinburgh its advertised on board game geek....who played Germany at derby last year I will message him he may well know some people.... Or connect with him on FB Phleg?.

He may well know some people. Or midcon itself would be good place maybe speak to jeremy. He may have list of players there were at least 4 at Derby who expressed an interest. Then andy gunther's poodle. He is unreliable because his mother isnt well but if he can he would play.
Also there a guy called squasher on this site he is not active but he may be interested I have him phone number so I will ring him.

Strategus also has some championship-winning hounds who could at a push play - *woof*

CaptainMeme is also local as in stockport and had pal he brought last year.

Good stuff Dib. The more the merrier. Also, if there are enough players you won’t have to fear playing with me on a board! :D

Big Gun wrote:Good to see Captainmeme will be attending. I’m heading down to the London Diplomacy Club next weekend where Marvin and Greg are hosting a game of Colonial Diplomacy. I’ll try to generate some interest there for MaccCon. We all want it to be a success. Can you recommend any of the hotels near the venue Phleg? Also - with that many people attending might it be wise to reserve tables at a curry house?

There's a decent curry house a few doors up, so I'll get that booked well in advance!

Drumming up interest in London would be fantastic, thanks Gun. It's only a 1hr 45min train journey from Euston and the station is 10 mins from the venue, so they've got no excuse not to attend :D

As regards hotels, I'm not an expert as I've never had to use one here, but I know there's a big Travelodge right by the station and a few B&B's within 5min walking distance of the venue too. I'll do a bit more research. and get back to you all...

Hi All, sorry for the delay, hectic life, but here's an update on attendees, venue and schedule:

Attendees (in no particular order!):

100% Confirmed: Me, dib, Pootles, Big Gun, Strategus, Andy from Jersey, Jack007, Capt Meme

People I'm 90% sure are coming: Caladrius, Tibetan Blackbird, Brumark, Greg Mostyn

People I hope we can persuade: The other Andy from MidCon, Claesar from WebDip, Dan Lester, Dave Simpson - if anyone knows any of those guys (or any other interested parties) and can apply some gentle pressure that would be very helpful!

That's a grand total of 16. Ideally I'd want 15/16 so there's at least one adjudicator and two full boards. As it's my gig I'm intending to adjudicate in order to keep things on track, make sure everyone has a good time and is properly fed & watered, liaise with the venue etc. While I'd love to play a successful event is even more important to me. Maybe both are possible :D

Some people have asked whether it's planned as a tournament. I'm happy either way on this point, so what's the majority view?

I hope to start play at around 10:30 am each day and end around 5:30/6pm.

I plan 2x standard boards on Saturday, then Sunday to have the option for 1 variant board and 1 standard (finalists if we are having a tourney?).

The venue is in the town centre. There is no onsite parking, but parking is very near, the train station is a 5 minute walk away, and all shops, bars, restaurants etc are practically next door.
There will be a hot buffet for lunch, and a bar all day for our private use.
At the end of play it's planned to go out for a curry - there are several decent places close by that can accommodate a good crowd.

Any thoughts, questions, worries?

If it is a tournament with fifteen or more people, then the winner gets webdip points, so since a few of us are in the webdip online tournament, might as well make it official if we have enough players. Might need to double check the webdip rules to make sure of it.

Sounds good to me. I've tried to publicise in webdip forums, but not much success - if you think you can twist some arms be my guest.
