UK Face to Face Game on 2/3 March 2019

Hi All,

The cold winter nights are drawing in, so what better way to relax and unwind than with a game of face to face Diplomacy? You know it makes sense!

With that in mind, and following the great time that was had at MidCon and the subsequent very positive comments about boosting the face to face hobby in the UK, I am planning to host a weekend of face to face Diplomacy in March.

Location will be Macclesfield in Cheshire, hopefully on the first weekend in March (2nd/3rd)

At this time I am assuming it will be held at my house, with a single board. However, if there are enough players for more boards then there are plenty of cheap venues such as church halls nearby where I could try to rent a larger space. At the time of this update we definitely seem to have a good chance for a second board - I will keep updating.

I'm in the town centre, so there are plenty of accommodation and eating/drinking options very nearby. Macclesfield is close to the M6 and is on the West Coast Mainline, so there are good road and rail links for anyone travelling from afar. It's also only a 20 minute taxi ride from Manchester Airport for the truly enthusiastic!

So, who fancies it?

Hi Phlegmatic

Very kind of you to agree to host this.

As a fully paid up member of the Playdip MidCon 7 I'd love to come but my own birthday falls on that weekend and I'm almost certainly going away for it, which is something I do most years.

So I'm afraid it'd have to be a no from me - perhaps one of Pootle's canine travel companions could play instead?

Such a shame to miss out on great company, Diplomacy and yet more whisky

If for some reason you all decide to switch the date to your alternative of 2/3 March I should be able to make that but obviously please don't do that solely on my account.

Best

Caladrius

Just checked flight prices Geneva-Manchester. It's so silly cheap: 60£ for the return ticket. Absurd.
Please let me know early which of the two dates.

It all starts with the date.

I think we/you . settle on that and then promote. The venue can change but not the date.

Obviously, RL can get in the way and people may drop out or join but the date should always be fixed.

I can do either.

I'm very happy to go for the later date if that works better for everyone - Strategus, Pootles, what are your thoughts?
Regarding venue, I like the idea of a house game as my house is right next to hotels, curry, pub etc, all handy after a hard day's Dip. Plus there are all the creature comforts of kettles, sofas, fridge, piles of free biccies etc.
I'm in no way beholden to that though, I'll go with the majority. :)

I'll go with the flow. Date-wise, I will make myself available, subject to fire, flood or killer bees. Venue-wise, not fussed, as long as there is easy access to copious amounts of alcohol.
