I'm thinking of signing up for this:

https://wdc2017.com

Is there anyone else from our PlayDip community considering participation? It would be good to arrange a meet up... :D

Yes. Not 100% yet.

If you are close to it, definitely worth attending.

Has anyone on here played at WDC? Any feedback / pointers etc?

Have you been to a F2F tournament before?

This thread should probably be moved to face-to-face forum.

I think there were some prior posts there discussing pointers, but couldn't seem to find them.

Yes I have a few times - and even finished joint first at a tourney in California (kublacon) a few years ago. But that was only three tables... I got hammered in an escalation playoff! The game is really different face to face.

Thankyou! But I was more interested in WDC specifically... I'm not a big follower of the magazines etc which I know follow it so just wondered if anyone on here has been involved.

Yes, I have been to a WDC or two. At least four other people with site accounts were in attendance at WDC '16 in Chicago, but two of them only post here about F2F play.

From a format perspective, they are not any different than most tournaments. A lot of smaller tournaments do not have a top board and the bigger ones do.

The WDC is typically the largest tournament of the year. A lot of returning champions attend. At least two of my boards had two WDC champs on them this year in Chicago.

What other kind of information were you looking for?
