Just Beginning

Postby DiplomacyDayM » 27 Sep 2014, 16:22

I will be GM'ing a tournament soon.

Can I make move due every Monday and Friday 6pm EST?

1st Monday Spring 1901
1st Friday Fall 1901
2nd Monday Fall 1902
2nd Friday Builds / Losses

Can retreats automatically go towards home area, then randomize so as not to slow the pace of the game down?

You can do 5-game deadlines for a new game. Retreats cannot be automized.
If you meant you are in a game and now have to leave, you should try to get a sub.
Hope that helps.

Not going to happen on this site. Sorry...We don't have that option...we can't automatize retreats...and frequently retreating HOME is the worse move...plus what happened to winter 01 and spring 02.

I know what you WANT to do, we just aren't set that way.

As has been said, there are no automatic retreats.

I'd go for 5/3/3 (5 days for orders, 3 days for retreats, and 3 days for builds/disbands) or whatever suits the game the best, while erring on the side of longer deadlines. Then, if you want the deadlines to sometimes be shorter, deprending on the day of the week, you can suggest that the players should finalize by a particular day, so that the orders will procees sooner if everyone has finalized, though you won't be able to enforce the finalizing.

Thanks

No automated retreats.

But their are no builds / losses on odd moves.

So can I set 3 days for odd moves, 1 day for retreats, 2 days for even moves, and 1 day for builds / losses.

If everyone has their move in early, are the results posted early too?

Does the map update itself?

Yes, this site is fully automated. There really is nothing for a GM to do.

It's up to you whether you want the turn to roll early...the site gives you the option to allow "finalize" turns - which means that if every player has finalized their orders, the clock will drop to zero and the turn will automatically advance. (Or, on the retreat/build phases, anyone with orders to give finalizes).

If you would prefer to keep the game on a strict timeline, you can turn off that finalize option when setting up the game.

Not sure there is a place for a classic GM to run a game on this site - the site does a pretty REALLY great job running things. However, if you prefer to have a traditional role of one person overseeing/mentoring/supervising the game, you can set up a schools game, with yourself as the teacher. You would not participate, but would be able to see everyone's messages and generally supervise the game.

Yes - fully automated, with a complex rules engine to handle adjudication of all orders. Everything is updated automatically.

Even if you don't decide to host a game here, you should try joining a game! You will probably be pleasantly surprised.
