Rising Sun

Heya! I havn't been here in awhile, but I thought I should mention that there is a new board game coming out next year that's very loosely based off of Diplomacy, named Rising Sun. Its designed by Eric Lang, who I guess is a pretty popular board game designer. It has some pretty cool things in it that Ive always wanted in Diplomacy, like money, solo people have more of a chance(granted it'll be harder), I dont think the backstabbing will be as bad, you can only officially ally with one person. Victory is determined by victory points though, Im honestly not sure how I feel about that.

Let me try to explain the game as short as possible.. There is 4 seasons, 3 you play, the 4th one is for final scoring. There is an honor tracker that is used to break ties, if you have more honor you win ties... but having low honor has other benefits, like most the monsters benefit low honor players. A season is broken into 2 phases, diplomacy and then battle. Diplomacy starts off with a tea ceremony where you negotiate for alliance with another player(alliance are never more than 2 people). During Diplomacy you pick mandates, basically creating units, moving units, picking cards that give benefits, drafting monsters, and betraying your ally(you dont have to be an alliance to betray, and its the only way you can remove other people's units during the political phase). There is also 4 gods that are randomly picked at the start of the game, and you can send men to try to gain their favor. Then there is a war phase, where players fight over provinces using a hidden bidding system. This is sorta like Diplomacy in the fact that everyone goes at the same time, and reveals what they chose. You have 4 options, Seppuku, where all your men kill themselves (good if you dont think youll win) and increases your honor. Take hostage, which can tip a battle in your favor. Hire Ronin, Ronin are sorta like another currency you can get, and can tip battles in your favor, but you can only use them if you win the Ronin bid. You then figure out who wins, and the 4th bidding is for more victory points. (Im worried this makes absolutely no sense lol) Link to rulebook Warning, its a big pdf (full color) http://www.cmon.com/resources/RS_Rulebook_WIP.pdf

I am totally hyped by this.

I was curious to see if there was any interest in maybe trying to play this in a forum style. I would love to moderate it. Get six players, and have them pick clans and try to complete a mandate a day. Ill try to make a really basic map and keep it up to date everyday. Not entirely sure how to run the war phase, maybe have players message me how they want to spend their coins and I can post the results. I would imagine itll take about a month and half to play.

If anyone would like to give this a shot, post here!
